Hello Ronald, I unfortunately was not receiving email when your email came through so I had to start a new thread. Anyway, here is a main program which I hope explains what I am trying to do. I have a stream of numbers and I want to apply a view onto it via the boost::multi_array. I am basically taking a slice of an n- dimensional tensor of data. In my case, I am not currently handling tensors greater than 4. The challenge is that I want to decide at runtime where to slice the array. In my program, this is actually from the GUI. This example code is a fully contained main program which hard codes everything. I hope it makes sense! Thanks for any ideas! Building boost for VS2005 SP1 & VS 2008

Hi, I would like to build boost library in 2 configurations (as mentioned below) for my project. 1. Visual Studio 2005 SP1 2. Visual Studio 2008 Also I want to use is on 32bit windows XP and also on 64 bit. So I guess I need it with above 2 configurations (VS2005 SP1 & 2008) both on 32 bit and 64 bit machine. Please confirm. I am using below version - Version 1.35.0 Boost Jam 3.1.16 I am following below steps to build on VS 2005 - * Unzip "boost-jam-3.1.16.zip" and run "build.bat" - As a result "bjam.exe" is created in folder "boost-jam-3.1.16\bin.ntx86" * Unzip "boost_1_35_0.zip" in say "C:\Boost" folder * Copy "bjam.exe" to "C:\Boost\boost_1_35_0" path * Go to command prompt and make current directory as "C:\Boost\boost_1_35_0" * Run the command below (For Microsoft Visual C++ command-line tools from Visual Studio .NET 2005) to build boost bjam "-sTOOLS=vc-8_0" install Regards, Mukund

Hi Ion, sorry not to get back sooner - I've been on vacation... It is not good, that it is not possible to do it this way. I will try to ask the XQilla developer if it would be possible to change the source code for not using raw pointers. But I do not see it well.. Is it hard to change this in project such a xqilla is (it calls xerces libraries and xercess calls icu...)? What is your experience? Do you see some other solution how to use C++ object from more instancess of program when not used interprocess library? Thank you for your advice. Hi Niels, thanks for your reply :-) By now, I realise that what I'm trying to do is to use a "smart reference" instead of a normal reference. This is "forbidden" in the boost Ublas documentation. On the other hand, the smart reference type I created seems to work fine for my application. If we could use the reference type of the StorageType as the reference type of the matrix class (see below), then at least it would be possible to use the smart reference in cases where it does work. In answer to your question, yes I would like to replace (in matrix.hpp) typedef const T &const_reference; typedef T &reference; with typedef typename A::const_reference const_reference; typedef typename A::reference reference; When I locally made the changes in matrix.hpp, so far it seems to work. My troubles when compiling without link=static. (with msvc-8.0)

My building platform : using msvc : 8.0 ; I have attached som attempt in compiling some boost examples. Notice I have set C:\Boost\lib in my LIB environment variable (set LIB=%LIB%;c:\Boost\lib ) log => command line | direcorty file_size.log => bjam file_size | BOOST_ROOT\libs\filesystem\example simple_ls.log => bjam file_size | BOOST_ROOT\libs\filesystem\example first.log => bjam first | BOOST_ROOT\libs\program_options\example minmax_timer.log => bjam minmax_timer | BOOST_ROOT\libs\algorithm\minmax file_size, simple_ls and first all work fine when adding the magic option link=static. bjam minmax_timer does not work both with and wothout link=static, instead minmax_ex works fine with and without link=static, that's why I have not listed it in my trouble list of course. I would appreciate any help in solving any of my troubles. Notice I have compiled boost with bjam --build-type=complete install Onestly I am a bit pessimistic. Still I hope I am missing something obvious. I can't see why link=static works so fine while without link=static all this troubles arise.

You should be using boost::algorithm::split(SplitString, temp, is_any_of("-")); the 3rd parameter should be a predicate functor not string. You need to include <boost/algorithm/string/predicate.hpp> to use the predefined functor is_any_of(). Hope it helps. Tom
