Error while compiling boost thread

Hi All, I am using boost thread for my project. I have used BCP tool to extract only those binaries that is related to boost thread(and the dependencies also).... Now I am trying to compile my code using only that thread binaries.. previously i tried using that binaries by writing a small code.... and it worked properly. I have done the necessary setings changes in VS2008. Hi, I want to write a portable program which need to read/write serial ports. How can boost help this? Thank you. ( I got know basic serial programming in Linux but I have no idea how that it done in Windows ) -- woody then sun rose thinly from the sea and the old man could see the other boats, low on the water and well in toward the shore, spread out across the current.

Pool ordered_malloc and O(n)

Hi, the boost pool documentation states ordererd_malloc(n) and boost::free(chunk, n) both take O(n). I tested it with a workload of a lot of n=1 and n=2 small allocations. Basically if I just use boost::malloc(2*base_size) even if i just need boost::malloc(base_size) the runtime is 1 min. With ordered_malloc(_)/boost::free(_,_) the runtime explodes (>> 30 minutes) (I terminated the program). Profiling it, one can see, that ordered_malloc dominates the runtime (83 % after a few minutes). Is this a known issue? Is the runtime of ordered_malloc in O(n), i.e. in O(c\cdot n), but the constant factor c is very huge? Best regards Georg Sauthoff

[Serialization] Compile error in load_wrapper

Hi, I am having trouble serializing a class. Actually, I am having trouble compiling the class as below. The actual archiving is behind an interface (hence the Save and Load methods) which may work (once I get this sorted, I'm going to look at the export traits), but the error points to me not declaring the is_wrapper properly. Fastest way of serializing a huge vector of ints into a human readable string

Hi, I have a program which produces a vector of integers (several million entries). I need to write that into a human-readable string of space separated numbers. I wonder, what would be the fastest way? My first attempt was stringstream resultStream; copy(integers.begin(), integers.end(), ostream_iterator<int>(resultStream, " ")); string result = resultStream.str(); But that requires copying the string. Thus I was wondering if I could use boost to write to the target string directly? boost::iostreams allow me to do the following: string result; boost::iostreams::filtering_ostream out(boost::iostreams::back_inserter(result)); copy(integers.begin(), integers.end(), ostream_iterator<uint64>(out, " ")); This is faster by almost a factor of 2. Any ideas how to increase speed even more? Thanks in advance, Roland

Hi I'm going to use Boost.Pool with UserAllocator mapped directly to Windows API calls ::VirtualAlloc and ::VirtualFree. So it makes no sense to allocate less than SYSTEM_INFO::dwAllocationGranularity, which currently equals to 65536. To my surprise, I have not found anything like this in documentation. But I've seen in source code this: // pre: npartition_size != 0 && nnext_size != 0 explicit pool(const size_type nrequested_size, const size_type nnext_size = 32) So is "nnext_size" what I was looking for ? And what does mean "an extension", is there an official proposal of Pool for future standard ?

Building boost 1.38 on mac os X

Hi, I'm having problems (again) building boost on mac OS X 64-bit. Once again specifying architecture=x86 address-model=64 to bjam gives me a message that my cpu does not support the x86-64 instruction set. I was getting the same message with boost 1.34, and it was fine for boost 1.36. I tried getting around the problem by adding cxxflags=-m64 to the bjam execution, but then I get the message at the bottom. Invoking bjam with no option will build everything fine, but it looks like it is a 32-bit build.
