Boost.Log build problem

Hello All, I installed Boost v1.42 that was available from Synaptic Package Manager in Xubuntu 10.10. Downloaded the Boost.Log library from sourceforge and extracted it under /usr/include/boost. I found a similar help request at: http://lists.boost.org/boost-build/2007/06/16748.php but I want to know whether what I am doing is correct - that is trying to build one library from source (that is not officially part of boost), while installing all other boost libraries from a package manager? In /usr/lib all the other boost static and shared libraries are installed. Thank you for your time. cheers, Anand.

Hi pthread_exit() is used to pass data to the parent thread at exit. pthread_join() should receive this data to its second parameter. quickbook syntaxhighlighting in katepart

Hi, I tried to get the syntaxhighlighting for kate working, but with no success. I copied the *.xml files with the highlighting definitions to the katepart/syntax directory (both for kate-3 and kate-4), but nothing changed opening *.qbk files. Any hints? -- Wilhelm

[GIL] convert image view to const image view

I originally hoped that an actual function argument of type GIL mutable image view (e.g., gray8_view_t) would be automatically promoted to a (immutable or const) view (e.g., gray8c_view_t). But my experience (with version 1.44.0) indicates otherwise. It also seems like the const_view function, which generates a (const) view from an image is not overloaded to do the same using a mutable view. Obviously, I'm just getting starting using GIL, since this sort of conversion would, I presume, be used often. I've been searching the online documentation without success. Can someone point me to the answer for this basic task? In the meantime, I'll be reading the GIL header files. Thanks.

I am a newbie looking for guidance using Boost libraries regarding shared-memory and parallel processing. First, my task is to run two programs at the same time that need to share a data structure. Which boost libraries will help me? Also, any clarification between parallel processing, multi-thread processing, and shared-memory would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

named pipes in boost for Linux

Hi, Could anyone please let me know if named pipes are implemented in boost for Linux for communication between two processes which are not child and parent. I could not find in the documentation that named pipes are implemented so far. Is there information that they will be implemented in future versions. Please let me know if my query is not clear. crash in boost serialization (1.44)

Hello, I’ve noticed a crash (accessing a null pointer) inside the boost serialization (version 1.44). I use visual studio 2005, the code to serialize is in a Dll. I have a small visual studio solution that reproduces the crash, I guess it is a bug and should cause a crash in other environments as well. I have the following classes INode (Interface) Node (Abstract, derived from INode) LeafNode(derived from Node) TableNode(derived from Node) The TableNode has a list of INode*, the children. A TableNode itself can be a child of a TableNode. All classes are inside a Dll and correctly exported (I have no “unregistered class” exceptions). If I create a TableNode with some entries including another TableNode and serialize it as an object, I get the crash when trying to deserialize later. If I do the same, but serialize the parent TableNode as a pointer, it works. I guess the serialization framework does not recognize that a TableNode gets serialized through a pointer and therefore the object tracking does not work correctly. I can send the example solution if needed. The crash is in the basic_iarchive.cpp, line 456 (bpis_ptr is null): if(! tracking){ bpis_ptr->load_object_ptr(ar, t, co.file_version); } Best regards, Rico

Serialization linker error: wstring and libcpmt.lib

Hi guys, I have just started to use boost::serialization to serialize a complex data structure in a VS2005 MFC project. I'm still very unfamiliar with boost but i need to get this done by then end of the day. I ran into a couple of linker errors during compilation: error LNK2005: "public: unsigned int __thiscall std::basic_string<char,struct std::char_traits<char>,class std::allocator<char> >::size(void)const " (?size@?$basic_string@DU?$char_traits@D@std@@V?$allocator@D@2@@std@@QBEIXZ) already defined in msvcprt.lib(MSVCP80.dll) libcpmt.lib there are 24 others of the similar error.
