Windows 8/Windows Server 2012 compatibility

Konrad, I don't think the author of boost::log watches this mailing list. You might find more help at the boost-log sourceforge forum: http://sourceforge.net/projects/boost-log/forums/forum/710022. For what it's worth, I found using boost::log to be challenging, because there were lots of API changes between version 1 and 2, the API continues to change, and the documentation has not always kept up with the changes. Furthermore as the author makes changes he uses the current boost sandbox -- boost::log does not always build with the current released version of boost. If you already have a home-grown logging system in place, I'd question whether it is worth the effort to change. Hi All, I am trying to introduce boost::log into one of projects I am working on. The application already does some logging to the trace file and additionaly uses Windows Event Log to post messages. What I am going to do is to replace the existing logging framework with boost::log. Being frank - these are my first attempts at boost at all. I am following exactly the steps from the examples section of the documentation. [Foreach] tweaked for speed -- a kludge worth refining?

I admire the tight machine code BOOST_FOREACH teases compilers into generating. So what could be my problem? More speed! I have a situation with gathering floating-point data that may be of such low interest it's not worth pursuing for the library. In any case, I have my work-around (described below) that gets the job done. In this case, the need to accumulate: 1) using vectors of indices into another data vector (very NUMA) i.e. data[index] 2) there is always at least one index 3) majority of cases are two indices 4) but there may be several indices Obviously, it is best to go ahead and immediately process the (guaranteed) first index. This hides the cost of increment and loop-test in the latency of data fetch, even from L1 cache. But BOOST_FOREACH does not do that. So I hacked the macro. Works great! Creates the tightest machine code, boosting 2-element cases to the hardware limit (SSE/AVX instructions). Yes, there is the curly braces thing -- "crude but effective" is all I'm claiming. chaining ouput iterator to input iterator

Hi, I have a function that transforms a serie of numbers into another serie: template <typename InputIterator, typename OutputIterator> void transform( InputIterator begin, InputIterator end, OutputIterator out ) { } and a 2nd function that calculates the standard deviation of a sample template <typename InputIterator > double stdev( InputIterator begin, InputIterator end) { } Is there a way to chain these existing functions in order to get the std dev of the transformed serie, without storing the intermediate numbers? Maybe with the help of some lazy iterator, or some lazy function? MM

[Multi Index] Random Access Index C2247 Compile Error

Igor, thanks for getting back to me. Very good suggestion. I was trying to gain 'direct random access' to the items in the container by using the bracket operator on the MIC object, as you would do on a vector... "m_micOrders[index]". This is how example 10 in the Boost documentation shows the usage, using a text block stored in a MIC called tc, and using tc[pos] to access the pos'th element. After a review of the MIC source code and a bit of thinking, I have tried first getting a reference to the random access index, and then using the bracket operator on the reference to the index like this (where the random index is the seventh defined index in my case)... OrderMIC::nth_index<6>::type& index6 = m_micOrders.get<6>(); spOrder = index6[ index ]; It seems a general rule with MIC's is that you should never call any member functions on anything other than a reference to one of the indices. So, thanks very much for your help, and I am off and running again, much obliged. Steve

[Multi Index] Random Access Index C2247 Compile Error

Thanks very much to Steven Watanabe for getting back to me regarding my lower_bound/upper_bound question - I will take a look at equal_range() as suggested. I have been reading around and found the random_access index. This is useful to me to find any random item in my multi_index container. I am having a problem compiling though, I get error c2247 when I try to use the square bracket operator [] to access a randomly indexed item. The error message says that this is an inheritance issue with the protected status of the operator... c:\program files\microsoft visual studio\myprojects\xmltest\xmltest\xmltestapp.cpp(899) : error C2247: 'boost::multi_index::detail::random_access_index<SuperMeta,TagList>::operator []' not accessible because 'boost::multi_index::detail::ordered_index<KeyFromValue,Compare,SuperMeta,TagList,Category>' uses 'protected' to inherit from 'boost::multi_index::detail::random_access_index<SuperMeta,TagList>' I have based my code on example 10 in the Multi Index Documentation source examples. I can see that Daniel Bradburn had the same problem, detailed in a post dated April 6th 2010. Joaquin M Lopez Munoz responded, asking for a little test project to demonstrate, but there I can find no resolution to his (and, thus, my) question. I have also tried using the "#define BOOST_NO_MEMBER_TEMPLATE_FRIENDS" line, but no joy. For now, I can work around by either hacking the protected state to public or iterating the container to a random point. I have updated Boost to 1_50 and created an isolated test case in a small project to replicate the issue. I am using Visual Studio 9 on Windows Vista. Thanks in advance for any help with this. Steve

Hello. I'm trying to compile a C++ project using boost/bjam that uses SQLite3. Normally I would: g++ main.cpp -lsqlite3 -o main.exe But I don't know how to specify the library in the Jam file. Can someone tell me how you specify the libraries in a jam file? I'm using RHEL 6.2 (64bit) in case it matters. Thanks in advance for any and all help. [Serialization] msvc derived class in dll throws archive_exception::unregistered_class

Hi, This is (yet another) question about the archive_exception::unregistered_class ("derived class not registered or exported"). I've tried to find as much information before posting here, but frankly I'm stumped at this point. I believe this SO topic (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9189055/put-the-serialization-of-a-class…) is pretty much the exact same problem I'm having if you want more code to look at. The problem is that the archive_exception::unregistered_class exception is thrown when attempting to serialize via a base class pointer that is instantiated as a derived type defined in a shared library (DLL). The declaration and definition for the serialization is split between a header/cpp respectively. Serializing in the same manner, but with the derived class defined in the same executable works correctly. To hopefully answer the easy questions right away: the header contains the BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_KEY macro and the cpp contains the BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_IMPLEMENT with the defined exported templated functions for the binary_iarchive and binary_oarchive, e.g.: header: BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_KEY(derivedClass) cpp: BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_IMPLEMENT(derivedClass) template LIB_LINKAGE void derivedClass::serialize(boost::archive::binary_iarchive & ar, const unsigned int version); template LIB_LINKAGE void derivedClass::serialize(boost::archive::binary_oarchive & ar, const unsigned int version); The derivedClass::serialize contains the serialization for the base class, e.g.: template <class Archive> void ModuleStarted::serialize(Archive & ar, unsigned int) { ar & boost::serialization::base_object<baseClass>(*this); } My problem only exists under msvc (have not tried other versions but using 9 with SP1), building under g++ 4.6.3 works correctly. I have tested with Boost 1.49.0 and 1.50.0. Some discussions mentioned placing the BOOST_CLASS_EXPORT_* macros after the export.hpp #include, and even having the export.hpp included after the archive headers, all of which don't appear to work. I have also created a standalone VS solution with the executable and dll projects from the Boost.Serialization test code (test_dll_export, with polymorphic_base and polymorphic_derived2) and the same problem still occurs. I have attached this file (unfortunately the include paths will need to be modified) - it's built against Boost 1.50.0. Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone has seen this issue before and might be able to point out what I'm doing wrong. I'm building boost into a local directory on systems where I don't have root privileges and need to use boost for our tool development. Here is the snippet of code I'm using to build boost (1.48 or 1.49). Both give me the problem(s) outlined below. cp SOURCES/boost_$boostver.tar.gz BUILD/$sys/boost_$boostver.tar.gz cd BUILD/$sys tar -xzvf boost_$boostver.tar.gz cd boost_$boostver ./bootstrap.sh --prefix=$OPENSS_BOOST_ROOT ./bjam --layout=tagged --prefix=$OPENSS_BOOST_ROOT --libdir=$OPENSS_BOOST_ROOT/$LIBDIR --includedir=$OPENSS_BOOST_ROOT/include threading=multi install cd ../../.. I believe I was able to build earlier versions of boost (1.45) w/o these issues. So maybe something changed or needed to that I wasn't aware of... I'm using BGL to store 3D triangle meshes, and I'm also using the ANN lib to find nearest neighbours of mesh points. My code used to work, using gcc 4.4 and BGL 1.40 (in Ubuntu 10.04), but since upgrading to gcc 4.6 and BGL 1.48 (in Ubuntu 12.04), my code doesn't compile anymore. I cut down my code to a minimal (I think) example that shows my problem. The attached code compiles with the old setup (I just get a warning that adjacency_list.hpp uses a deprecated header), but it does not compile in Ubuntu 12.04, The compilation error I get is "no matching function for call to 'Mesh::Vertex_Iterator::Vertex_Iterator(const Mesh* const, unsigned int&)'" The reason for that is that there is "no known conversion for argument 2 from 'unsigned int' to 'Mesh::Vertex_Graph_Iterator {aka boost::range_detail::integer_iterator<unsigned int>}'" Could anybody explain why, and what I can do to solve it? Is there a straightforward Boost API for REST Web services calls

I am new to Boost and definitely still a novice with C++ in general. I would like to use Amazon Web Services (AWS) with C++. AWS supplies tookits (APIs) for .Net, Java, etc. However, they do not supply an API for C++. Therefore, I believe the best way for me to interact with AWS using C++ will be with REST. My rationale for wanting to use C++ is that I enjoy the flexibility and aesthetics of C++ and want to continue to find opportunities to learn and practice with it. (I do not have a specific application need and could use the AWS .Net API for my project if I needed to). Having said that, I understand that Boost is one of the most highly-regarded add-on libraries for C++. Therefore, is there a Boost library that will EASILY allow me to make REST (get and post) calls? If not, can someone recommend another well-tested and widely used C++ library that would allow me to make such REST calls? Thank you, Adam

But "pacing" is really a pair of values, not some collection of independent values. I've tried to find a config file syntax more like pacing= 3.14 2.718 that Boost PO will accept, but I can't find one. (I get syntax error complaints about pacing.) Is there either (a.) a syntax for a single pacing= that PO will "compose" into the vector, or (b.) a change I could make to add_options that would make this work. For example, I'm not in love with vector if there is some other container that would work better. Thanks, Charles

[Multi Index Container]: Retrieving a set by ordered non-unique criteria?

I'm a newbie use of Multi Index Containers, apologies if this question is facile. I have read through the Boost online documentation but am still a bit stumped. I have a container that contains shared pointers to instants of a custom object type (in this case, financial market orders). The container has an ordered-non-unique index defined by a member function of the object. Specifically it is the object's state code, an integer. At any point in time, I would expect several objects with a state value of 1, several with 2, etc. I need to pull back the set of objects in a particular state, to a set. I intend to use the set in testing to 'do something' with one random object in that set, but to all intents and purposes I just need to get the shared pointer to an item in State=1. How would I pull back the set (or analogous container) of objects that are in State=1? I am thinking that I first get a reference to the index in question, which is fine. Would I then do a find(), and would that find() operation return a set-like object? Or, would I need to do a lower_bound() and upper_bound() operation to find the two enclosing iterators, and then copy all shared-pointers-to-objects to a std::set, and then operate on the set as normal? Thanks in advance for assistance with this, help is greatly appreciated. Compiling boost asio 1.50.0 under Xcode 4.3.3 with Clang or GCC and c++11 support

(Below) Is this is known issue, am I missing something, or does the libboost_system.a library need to be compiled differently than the default directions to work with c++11 support? [test] defining a macro to ignore tests

boost-uers, I vaguely recall a discussion a while ago regarding support for ignoring tests in boost test, and the conclusion being that its not possible. However, is it as simple as defining a macro such as this? #define BOOST_IGNORE_AUTO_TEST_CASE(test_name) void test_name() If that's the case, it would really be useful to have this in boost test.
