No success with VS2013 and Boost 1.55b1

Using the attached batch file (below) to make Boost 1.55 beta 1 - I did NOT have success building Boost 1.55b1 with the release version of VS2013. I was however on a different PC able to build Boost with successfully with this batch file using VS2012. Others have reported successful builds using VS2013 – am I missing something new? Does boost::unordered_map<> work with boost::container::scoped_adaptor?

*context *our code base uses boost 1.54 with GCC 4.4.7 on CentOS 6, compiling as C++98. we're interested in using an allocator with state with the standard containers, so are investigating the boost container library in boost 1.54, in particular, instantiating these containers with a boost::container::scoped_allocator_adaptor<MyArena> style argument. *questions* 1) i notice that boost::unordered_xxx<> is not part of the boost container library. does this mean that these classes are not aware of the C++11 allocator model? a casual inspection of the code suggests that this might be the case 2) if so, has anyone here tried to patch them, port them, or the like? 3) if not, can anyone here offer thoughts or advice on how i might attempt to do so myself? rgerads, Jonathon Bell Paradigm 4

[Locale] linking against static ICU library

Hi, Is there a problem with building Boost.Locale against the static ICU libraries? I have quickly looked through the respective Jamfile, but I don't see it being supported. Could anyone give me a hint or two on how to modify the Jamfile to link against static ICU (they are prefixed with "s", e.g. sicuXXX.lib) ? Hello MPL experts, I want to code a state machine which has a reaction list containing more than 50 entries. I found here [http://svn.boost.org/svn/boost/trunk/libs/mpl/preprocessed/] some python scripts to generate header files for lists containing more than 50 entries. But I cannot manage to generate a single header file. Can someone please explain to me how to use these scripts? I also didn't find any help in boost documention. Command line messages of the related script were also not helpful for me: preprocess_list.py Usage: preprocess_list.py <mode> <boost_root> [<source_file>] Purpose: updates preprocessed version(s) of the header(s) in "boost\mpl\list\aux_\preprocessed" directory Example: the following command will re-generate and update all 'apply.hpp' headers: preprocess_list.py all f:\cvs\boost apply.cpp What is the meaning of [<source_file>] here? String algorithm? Removing non-alphanumerics from a string

Hi, Takeing an std::string as input, I need to return the same string with any characters not in the ranges "az", "AZ" and "09" being discarded. A colleague told me that a could use something in the string algorithm library, but I'm obviously not spotting what I need. I tried regex replace, but failed, as I'm not understanding regular expressions yet. Any and all suggestions would be gratefully received. Best wishes. Tim Burgess

hello, I am compiling my code with g++4.8.1 under c++11 mode, however the fedora's system provided boost thread lib has been compiled under c++98. Linking fails because of errors like: mainthread.cpp:(.text+0x2cf): undefined reference to `boost::thread::start_thread()' mainthread.cpp:(.text+0xcc9): undefined reference to `boost::thread::join()' looking at the provided shared object, nm -C -D /usr/lib64/libboost_thread-mt.so.1.53.0 |grep start_thread 000000000000ba80 T boost::thread::start_thread_noexcept(boost::thread_attributes const&) 000000000000ba00 T boost::thread::start_thread_noexcept() neither of which is start_thread() I've put an entry here https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1021009 Is there a possible workaround? ASIO receive and handle uploaded files

I hope that someone can give me a very general overview of what I would need to do order to create an ASIO application that handles uploaded files. At this time, I am uploading files via my web browser to a PHP script that handles files. >From what I've read so far, I am guessing that I would have to create an ASIO server that listens for incoming HTTP POST (multipart/form-data) and saves the message to a file on the server. Any additional information would be much appreciated as well as pointing me to a relevant ASIO example(s) that I should carefully look at. Thank you!

Migration from boost 1.49 to 1.54

Hi folks, We have a rather big project which we like to migrate from boost 1.49 to 1.54. I ran into several compile problems under Visual Studio 2010 SP1. The most annoying I was not able to solve yet is the following: We are using boost::serialization a lot and I now get the following error: <snip> error C2995: 'boost_132::shared_ptr<T> boost_132::dynamic_pointer_cast(const boost_132::shared_ptr<U> &)' : function template has already been defined </snip> I checked the sources but I don't understand why this broken with the new version. I removed all references to "shared_ptr_cast" and dynamic_ptr_cast in my code, but compilation still fails. Any ideas? cheers Sebastian

NT2 and Boost.SIMD beta 2 available

[Voronoi] Trying to figure out proper direction of semi-infinite edges.

Hi, Trying to figure out how to use the Voronoi library in 1.54 Boost (Great stuff BTW, Thanks!) I am using the library to shatter a 2d convex polygon. So I need to generate polygons that are the results of clipping a voronoi cell against my convex poly. I am having hard time figuring out how to properly identify the direction of the semi-infinite edge. I know i can obtain the general direction of the infinite edge from the participating cell points, but I am not clear on how to distinguish between two possible directions in the semi-finite case. Dear developpers, I'am running Boost 1_54_0 on Scientific Linux slc-6.1, gcc-4.4.5, 64 bits machine. I face a problem with computation of spherical bessel function, although the problem seems well known here is a test program { int L; try { for(L=100;L<2010;L++) { boost::math::sph_bessel(L, 0.); } } catch (std::exception& sex) { cout << "Error j_"<<L<<"(0): "<< sex.what() << endl; } } And the output Error j_1755(0): Error in function boost::math::tgamma<e>(e): Result of tgamma is too large to represent. which tends to point out that at L=1755 the spherical bessel function get a problem once one ant to estimate at x=0. Of course, I know that j0(0) = 1 and for L>0 jL(0) = 0 but 1) I'm using a program which compute integral of product of bessel function and sometimes it needs to call the function at 0. Getting introduced to boost Python world, struck at hello_ext.pyd generation

Hi, Started to explore boost.Python to use C++ classes (.so or .dll) from Python world. I did these, (Windows) downloaded boost 1.54 and unpacked to C:\boost_1_54, Python 3.3 (earlier tried with Python 2.7) installed visuall C++ 2010 Express free edition From Visual studio command prompt, tested example.cpp and got the result. Now struck in getting hellp.cpp and to generate hello_ext.pyd. Looked at posts in stackoverflow and tried similar steps. Still the same. After unpacking boost1.54, I tried these <boost root> C:\boost_1_54>bootstrap.bat C:\boost_1_54>b2 Now it said add C:\boost_1_54 to compiler include path and add c:\boost_1_54\stage\lib to linker paths. Added these two paths to %PATH% environment variable thru advanced settings. Thanks That's true that for x close to zero but positive there are also problems to the use of power series close to 0 is certainly the best thing to do. I am astonished that this not yet used. [serialization] customizing save/load for a type (pointer)

Hi, I'm using Boost.Serialization on a project where part of the data is not serialized and then loaded separately when unserializing. For instance a class MyThing can have a member data MyThingData* which described some "static" data. There is an application which edits these data and saves them on file for the main application to use latter on. When serializing MyThing we customize save/load in order to serialize MyThingData as a UID (MyThingData has a GetId member function). Upon unserialization the proper MyThingData instance is searched for based on the UID read from the archive. This works OK but is a bit tedious because with class MyThing { ... Of course I could wrap MyThingData* in a simple object to encapsulate save/load but they're everywhere and the code base is quite massive so this would require a lot of changes. bug in boost::date_time::time_facet?

Hi all I've run into a problem with *_facet from boost::date_time when compiling for windows and I'm pretty convinced it is a bug in boost (tested 1.49 and 1.54). However, since gcc makes a successful attempt not to trigger it, and I'm not exactly an expert on windows formats/linkers/etc I'd like to have second opinion before I fill a ticket. Now, suppose we built it so that we have setFacet.dll exporting function setFacet, and test.exe is linked against this dll. In such setting the code works under linux (gcc 4.1, 4.7), but it doesn't work under mingw-w64 4.6.4 or msvc10 - default format is used both times: linux: 2002-Jan-31 23:59:59 2002-01 windows: 2002-Jan-31 23:59:59 2002-Jan-31 23:59:59 Why? Well, lets look at operator<< for ptime. It does one interesting comparison: if (std::has_facet<custom_ptime_facet>(os.getloc())) this comparison gives different results under linux and windows. The key is static member "id" of a facet class. It is declared in boost/date_time/time_facet.hpp and it is used by has_facet to give answer whether locale has facet for the given class. Since this header is included twice - once in dll and once in exe there are two storages for id of the same facet class. In gcc 4.1 appropriate symbols are weak objects. Apparently only one is selected as the proper one by the linker and used universally. In gcc 4.7 it is even better. Appropriate symbols are "unique global symbol" which explicitly means there should be only one instance in whole process. In mingw both these storages are used independently and the same class (boost::posix_time::time_facet) has different id in dll (in setFacet function) and different in exe file (in operator<<). This is why operator<< believes locale has no facet for posix_time. At this point I was suspecting some incompatibility between windows' linker and mingw's libstdc++ implementation (regarding std::locale::id initialization) However, under msvc10 it doesn't work either, with msvc library. I believe it is a bug in boost, even if some deficiency in mingw/msvc/windows is involved. Also, let me confess I'm far from having learned boost docs by heart. Can't get boost version 1.54.0 to compile (Debian Linux)

Hello. I'm quite new, and I've been needing Boost for something else I'm trying to compile... I've been trying to compile Boost, but it's giving me errors. Unfortunately, I can't use Debian's apt-get to get Boost, because I need version 1.5 or greater, and apt-get (for this version of Debian) only gets 1.49.0. I've put some feedback it gave me below. I've already run ./b2 (no arguments) before, so that's where the found targets are coming from. I'm not sure why I'm getting these errors...A whole bunch of header files are reported missing. [interprocess] Reading huge files

Dear all, I am new to boost memory mapping, so this question might look simplistic. I need to read huge amounts of data (for instance, a 20GB file), and since memory mapping is quite fast, I was going to use it. However, I don't know what it would be faster when, due to memory constraints, I need to partition the file into regions. Moreover, I should treat the file as a string (I need to perform string operations). I didn't see anywhere in the documentation the possibility to move the mapped region. Another side-question, if you don't mind. Hello. I am relatively new to boost. I am trying to compile boost-1.52 in a windows server 2008R2 using visual studio 2012 express. I got an error linking random dll: random_device.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp__CryptAcquireContextA@20 referenced in function "public: __thiscall boost::random::random_device::impl::impl(class std::basic_string<char,struct std::char_traits<char>,class std::allocator<char> > const &)" (??0impl@random_device@random@boost@@QAE@ABV?$basic_string@DU?$char_traits@D@std@@V?$allocator@D@2@@std@@@Z) The same error repeats for 'CryptReleaseContext', 'CryptGenRandom' and 'CryptEnumProvidersA'. The problem does not happend if I add '<toolset>msvc:<linkflags>advapi32.lib' to the requirements in random/build/Jamfile.v2. If I were to use blocking communication, I would have to devise a non-trivial algorithm to avoid deadlocks. Non-blocking communication seems a better option. So - in previous version, there was no need for waitall functions. Instead of: std::vector<boost::mpi::request> send_requests_; std::vector<boost::mpi::request> recv_requests_; there was just a single boost::mpi::request in my Communicator class. There was a call to request.wait() at the beginning of Communicator::send_fields(), and Communicator::receive_fields() used recv() instead of irecv(). This worked, but the order of communication in Boundary::set_J() had to be fixed (send to left, recv from right, send to right, recv form left). Now that would be very ugly for up to 26 neighbors, so the idea was to: 1. isend everything 2. irecv everything 3. wait until everything is received 4. save received data 5. wait until everything is sent 6. exit the function, continue other computation.... All other functions - i.e. creating the recv_array_, copying from my V3Slice object, etc. are the same as in the "blocking version"

[system] Default error codes

boost/system/error_code.hpp defines "errc" as a collection of standard error codes (based on posix). It also defines a constructor for error_code and error_condition that allows them to accept a single parameter of an enum type when is_error_code_enum is defined to true for that enum type. It does not, however, actually do this for its own errc enum. As a result, code such as this fails to compile: boost::system::error_code ec(boost::system::errc::operation_canceled); Is there some good reason for this, or is it an oversight? It's certainly more annoying to have to explicitly specify the generic_category().

[iostreams] - Using sparse Windows files

Hello, I am trying to write cross-platform Boost code that utilizes sparse files on Windows7 and FreeBSD. I already have Windows code that creates and accesses a sparse file. I am of the understanding that Boost code cannot create a Windows7 sparse file for me so I am trying to create the file using the Windows code and then replace my ReadFileEx() and WriteFileEx() with Boost streams. I have had luck with using iostreams::file to access an existing Windows sparse file but it fails when I have to read a sparse area thinking it is at the end of the file. I tried creating a stream using an existing HANDLE but was not successful in reading or writing file content. Before I proceed further I thought I would ask first if Boost is capable of using Windows7 sparse file technology. If it is capable I would appreciate some guidance on how. I have done a bit of searching on the web with not much helpful information. Regards, Kevin

How to choose which library version to choose?

I have downloaded and built the Boost library, as according to these instructions: http://theseekersquill.wordpress.com/2010/08/24/howto-boost-mingw/ I need to use the serialization library, so I looked at the stage\lib folder, only to 16 different library files! Some are named mt, some sd, some s or d, and some a combination thereof, all this following libboost_serialization-mgw48. Some are dll files and some are a files. I tried using –lboost_serialization, as I have seen this mentioned on a lot of forums, but Eclipse says it can’t find that library. So how on Earth am I supposed to figure out which of the many files to link to?!

Hi Boost list! After watching Sean Parent's lightning-talk "Inheritance is the base class of Evil" ( http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/GoingNative/2013/Inheritance-Is-The-Base-Cl…) I decided to try a similar example with Boost's Type Erasure library, but did not succeed. I created a vector of any<.., ostreamable<>,...>, implemented the stream operator to print this vector type and I can print its' elements. A problem arises, however, when I insert this vector as an element of a second vector. When I print the second vector I encounter an infinite loop ending with a stack overflow when accessing the vector type when it is an element of second vector. The example which demonstrates this behaviour follows attached on this message. I am using Boost 1.55 from the trunk with clang 3.2 from Apple, compiling it with the flags "-std=c++11 -stdlib=libc++" and linking with "-stdlib=libc++". I would be grateful if anyone could try this on your local boost version and compiler. Can anyone shed some light on why this happens? Regards, -- Alexandre Pretyman

Hi all, I have a vector<pair<bool, int>> from which I need to read (and possibly write) only the vector elements for which the boolean value of the pair is true. I am using boost range filter and reverse adaptors to do that. However, I noticed that the order of the adaptors, ie whether I use reversed | filtered or filtered | reversed produces different results. In fact, for the latter when I use an iterator to the transformed range to change the boolean value of the pair, then the iterator after the change points to a different vector element. This does not happen when I use reversed | filtered. Below is the code demonstrating the issue. Using boost::iostreams::restrict without overconsuming the original stream

Hi, I amy trying to split an incoming streams into multiple substreams (specifically, an incoming cpio stream into its individual files). After parsing the header in the incoming stream, I have the file size, and can use boost::iostreams::restrict to create a substream containing only the file data, which the user can subsequently consume. However some experiments with filtering_streambuf show that it will consume past the end of the substream. Will the same happen with restrict?

[Exception] Duplicate symbol error when using errinfo_api_function in static library

Dear readers, I encountered a problem in my project when using *Boost.Exception* with the predefined types errinfo_xyz in a library project. I have two classes ClassA and ClassB in my library which both throw a boost::exception with errinfo_api_function type in their implementation file (.cpp) These both classes are compiled into a static library with the C/C++-Flags -fvisibility=hidden. Then I have a main.cpp which creates an instance of ClassA and ClassB and links to the library which contains ClassA.o and ClassB.o. When I compile the main.cpp I get the linker error duplicate symbol for the errinfo_api_function object in ClassA.o and ClassB.o. If I remove the visibility=hidden flag, it links without problems. I am not an expert on the compiler flags, but I saw that many libraries use the visibility=hidden flag so I think it would be good, if my lib could also use it. Some questions about the Boost.Parameter library: - seems like it hasn't been updated in some time -- is it still supported? - when specifying type constraints for named template parameters, is it possible to specify constraints among several type parameters (the way graph_type is used in section 2.1.5.6.1 of the documentation) - are there any issues in the interaction of Boost.Parameter and template specialization, i.e. how do I specialize the template on the values of some of the named parameters?
