Can someone point me to a concrete example of using is_pod? I'm confused by the docs. I'm trying to avoid performance-heavy serialization on an object. I can short-cut the serialization if I can determine if my object is POD. Thanks, Elli

[serialization] Issues with/questions about polymorphic archives

I'm seeing the following error when trying to serialize from a polymorphic_iarchive. I'm new to boost::serialization, so I was hoping somebody could shed some light on what I was doing wrong? I tried googling and searching the archives, but didn't find anything yet. error C2678: binary '>>' : no operator found which takes a left-hand operand of type 'const boost::archive::polymorphic_iarchive' (or there is no acceptable conversion) c:\boost\include\boost-1_35\boost\archive\detail\interface_iarchive.hpp(62): could be 'Archive &boost::archive::detail::interface_iarchive<Archive>::operator >><const boost::serialization::nvp<T>>(const boost::serialization::nvp<T> &)' The code in question is essentially: virtual void foo(const boost::archive::polymorphic_iarchive& ar) { ar >> boost::serialization::make_nvp("typeName", *typePtr); ... } Also, it appears as though get_library_version() is private for polymorphic_iarchive_dispatch. I'm confused, isn't it public elsewhere? I was hoping to have access to it. I reckon there's a reason behind this, so I'm just curious as to why it's private. Thanks!

Boost 1.35 Multi-architecture and Static Build Failures on OS X 10.5 Intel

Several problems with configurations not properly propagating through the long build chain it seems.That is if I am setting this up correctly--there is always the possibility this is pilot error in the setup. 1) configure architecture=combined should be the default and provide a universal 32-bit architecture file: but the build is done for only the i386 architecture (no ppc) for the dylibs # all libraries are built as dynamic libraries supporting only the native architecture, in this case i386, and are not multi-architecture $find ./bin.v2 -type f -regex ".*dylib" -exec lipo -info {} \; Hello all im using boost::shared_ptr to init std::ofstream in it im declaring it as static : the .h file : typedef boost::shared_ptr<std::ofstream> OFStreamPtrType; class Foo { static OFStreamPtrType iStream; } then in the cpp file : OFStreamPtrType Utilities::iStream(new ofstream("mylog.txt",ios::app)); Foo::printLog(string s){ if (Foo::iStream->is_open()) { Foo::iStream << c <<".\n"; } } no its opening the file mylog.txt but it is not writing any thing to it why ?

Website Problem: Cannot access "library listing by category" from boost homepage

I havent been able to find a link from the boost homepage to the "library listing by category" page. The page I'm alking about is this one: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_35_0/libs/libraries.htm I fid it a really useful overview, when checking if boost can help solve a given problem. >From the home page, I folow the following chain of links: 1. Click on documentation.... http://www.boost.org/doc/ 2. Click on 1.35.0.... http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_35_0 But I cannot get from there to the libraries page above. Am I missing something, or is there something to be fixed here?

simple question about gil

I need to read, write (mid file stream), display, and resize (on screen only) an image or images. In giving a cursory examination of GIL it seems like total overkill and inappropriate for these simple needs but targeting something that is going to manipulate the images further. Is this an accurate assessment or are the tutorial examples simply focused for goals other than mine? Thanks.

Documentation of utf8_codecvt_facet

Through google searches and examples I have found that using utf8_codecvt_facet from boost/program_options/detail/utf8_codecvt_facet.hpp allows me to imbue my std::wifstream like this: std::wifstream f(p.string().c_str()); std::locale loc; std::locale utf8loc(loc, new boost::program_options::detail::utf8_codecvt_facet()); f.imbue(utf8loc); and now the wifstream is able to read UTF-8 encoded files. However, I not been able to find any 'official' documentation of this feature, and I'm not really hooked on using undocumented features. Is there any documentation somewhere? /peter
