linker problem with date_time library

Hi, I get an linker message if I compile my app with gcc-3.4.2 on Linux and link it against date_time library of boost 1.33.1: /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i586-suse-linux/3.3.1/../../../../i586-suse-linux/bin/l d: `.L1966' referenced in section `.rodata' of .libs/oci_date.o: defined in discarded section `.gnu.linkonce.t._ZN5boost9date_time23gregorian_calendar_baseINS0_19year _month_day_baseINS_9gregorian9greg_yearENS3_10greg_monthENS3_8greg_dayEE EmE16end_of_month_dayES4_S5_' of .libs/oci_date.o I only instantiate an ptime and call time_from_string and to_iso_extended_string. compiling 1_33_1 with vc6 / sp6 fails with error C2258...

Hi, i try to compile boost_1_33_1 or boost_1_33_0 with Visual C++ 6 (SP 6) on Windows XP (SP 2) and also on Windows 2000 (SP 4). The libraries date_time, filesystem, iostreams, regex, signals, test, thread, wave seems to be compiled without errors. But then..... unchain_ptr functionality?

Hi all When writing generic code, it's sometimes needed to call a member function of a passed object, however it's not known at the implementation time whether the function is passed a pointer or reference to the object. For example: template<typename T> void process(T t) { t.foo(); } This breaks as soon as the function is passed a pointer (or smart pointer) type, which means one needs to either provide overloads for all those cases (inconvenient), or have means of unchaining the pointer (it could also be pointer-to-pointer for example). Basically I'm looking for syntax like this: template<typename T> void process(T t) { unchain_ptr(t).foo(); } struct X { void foo() {} }; X *x = new X; process(x); process(&x); process(*x); process(boost::shared_ptr<X>(x)); // etc Is there such an utility in Boost libraries? Currently I wrote the implementation myself, and achieved the expected syntax, but perhaps there's an existing implementation already that I could use instead? I saw some libraries (multi_index) using something like this internally, but there doesn't seem to be any "end-user" API for this as far as I can see... Alo Sarv

Hello, I get an segmentation fault if I try to link against libboost_signals-gcc-1_33_1 or libboost_signals-gcc-mt-1_33_1! The application consist only of an empty main function and the binary is linked against the signals library. I've appended an output (tusc.out) of tusc (trace unix system calls) which indicates, that exit(11) is called and so a core dump created. I thought I had this working once after I found I needed the NVP wrappers for XML archives. Now the problem is back. Hello, Four questions about serialization :=) Let's go. 1) I have a class that have a reference on a vector of shared pointers to objects . Since I have no default constructors I redefined save_construct_data like this : template<class Archive> inline void save_construct_data( Archive & ar, const MyClass<Real> * t, // CLASS IS TEMPLATED const unsigned int file_version) { ar << & t->myref_; } I have got the following error (same problem with & operator): error: no match for 'operator<<' in 'ar << [...] 2) I there a tricky way to define this function for all type used to instantiate MyClass ? 3) Is it me or this example in the documentation : // save data required to construct instance ar << t.member1; // serialize reference to object as a pointer ar << & t.member2; should be : ar << t->member1; ar << & t->member2; ? 4) Should it be possible to add more examples which use templates in the library (since a lot of a macros are not available) ? parser of binary data using Spirit or Xpressive?

Is it possible to write parser of binary data (ie. NULL is just some value, not string delimiter) using Spirit or Xpressive? Did anyone actualy tried it? B.
