Hello, I am new to boost and using the serializiation library in VS7.1, and I am getting the following errors when trying to use binary_oarchive: c:\Boost\boost_1_32_0\boost\archive\basic_binary_oprimitive.hpp(101): warning C4003: not enough actual parameters for macro 'max' c:\Boost\boost_1_32_0\boost\archive\basic_binary_oprimitive.hpp(99): error C2589: '(' : illegal token on right side of '::' c:\Boost\boost_1_32_0\boost\archive\basic_binary_oprimitive.hpp(99): error C2059: syntax error : '::' c:\Boost\boost_1_32_0\boost\archive\basic_binary_oprimitive.hpp(99): error C2143: syntax error : missing '(' before '::' c:\Boost\boost_1_32_0\boost\archive\basic_binary_oprimitive.hpp(99): error C2059: syntax error : ')' I am also using boost::format and I get conversion warnings. However, I just #pragma disabled them. Is that the only way to fix them? Thanks! - Chris

Adapters library: using back_insertor with make_transform_iterator

How does this work? I'm trying to use the make_transform_iterator to make a writeable output iterator (looks like it is referred to as a "Writeable LValue" in the iterator template code), but I can't figure out how to do it. Here's the example: (I know that I could have used the make_transform_iterators on the source iterators in this toy example, but that won't do for my real application) typedef map<int,string> Map; typedef vector<int> V1; typedef vector<string> V2; string convert(int iValue) { return str(ostringstream() << iValue); } int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { V1 aSourceVector; V2 aTargetVector; copy(aSourceVector.begin(), aSourceVector.end(), make_transform_iterator(back_inserter(aTargetVector), boost::bind(convert, _1)); } The compiler (MSVC 7.1.3008) generates a compile errors like at the end of this message. Boost::regex assign/operator= 'problem'

Should an empty boost::regex raise a 'bad expression' exception when you assign it to another boost::regex object? It seems to me that an empty expression can't be bad - it hasn't had the chance to be good OR bad yet :-) The rationale for this is that I have an object that contains a boost::regex that is compiled on demand. The object is likely to be copied (into a std::vector), before the regex has been compiled (if it is ever compiled). I know I could use things like boost::optional<boost::regex>, or boost::scoped_ptr<boost::regex> (I am working round it currently), but this seems like an interesting corner case! Here's a minimal sample: #include <iostream> #include <boost/regex.hpp> int main(int, char**) { boost::regex re; try { re = boost::regex(); } catch (boost::bad_expression&) { std::cout << "It threw\n"; } return 0; } It'll output "It threw" on execution (environment = Windows 2000, VC7.1, Boost1.32.0). supressing "extra ;" warnings with GCC 3.4

Hi folks, Tried to compile our code with GCC 3.4 last night; our default is to always keep the warning levels turned all the way up. I'm getting many errors of the "extra `;'" type, as the result of various preprocessor metaprogramming constructs. Specifically, if a macro expands to a function definition (silly example): #define FOO(T) \ inline T FOO(T i) { ... } FOO(int); FOO(double); The semicolons after the macro invocations give GCC 3.4 fits; but without the semicolons, it looks strange, editors can't indent, etc. Is anyone aware of a way to silence the "extra ;" errors? (I've looked through their docs, can't find anything; I suspect other Boost users have run across this.) Is there something I'm missing in the preprocessor library that handles this sort of thing? Any help appreciated! Hi all, Input : dir_path \code boost::filesystem::path p(dir_path, boost::filesystem::native); boost::filesystem::directory_iterator i(p), j; while (i != j) { std::cout << i->string(); // Output ++i; } \endcode On Windows XP, If input dir_path is "d:\" , the i->string() returns complete path of all files and directories. BUT, If input dir_path is "d:" , the i->string() returns relative path of all files and directories. Please check if this is desired behaviour or not !! thanks saurabh

Tuple.hpp: initialization data in header

My compiler is complaining that tuple_basic.hpp has data initialization in header, at this line: detail::swallow_assign const ignore = detail::swallow_assign(); Because of this, it can't cache the headers, and compilation times goes turtle speed. Is there a simple way to overcome this, without the need to create a .cpp and linking it or without using macros?? Thanks :)

Hi All, Given two vector<Rec*> S.T. : vector<Rec*> src; vector<Rec*> dst; Where 'src' has some elements that are useful, is there a more succint way to say: for_each(src.begin(), src.end(), if_then( bind<bool>(&vector<Rec*>::empty, &var(dst)), bind<void>(&vector<Rec*>::push_back, &var(dst), _1) ) ); Originally I tried using the member pointer operator, but this it gave me compile fits (Red Hat with a 2.4.20-8 kernel, GCC 3.4.3) with this: for_each(src.begin(), src.end(), if_then(bind<bool>(&vector<Rec*>::empty, &var(dst)), (&var(dst) ->* &vector<Rec*>::push_back)(_1) ) ); Is that a valid use of the member pointer operator? boost.regex doesn't implement character set complements?

Hi: I was trying to write "Match everything *except* Bar". I wrote this: bool aResult = boost::regex_match(L"Foo", boost::wregex(L"[^(Bar)]")); This doesn't match. But if I wrote the same thing in Perl, it does work, ie: print "match\n" if( "Foo" =~ "[^(Bar)]"); It looks a lot like sets can't contain subexpressions in boost::regex ... is that really true? Is there some other way to write the same thing? Rob.
