Bug in Boost.Range + Boost.String Algorithms

I think I have found a bug mixing together this two libraries in Boost 1.32.0 Simply doing: #include <boost/algorithm/string.hpp> #include <boost/range.hpp> it's a bug because boost::algorithm::iterator_range<IteratorT> is redefined. I have attached a small demo program. ¿Am I wrong? ¿Is there a way to bypass this, apart from changing Boost code? Thanks in advance. Using zero characters in regular expessions

Hello, i try to use the regex library for binary data. I tried this code: string h("\x81\x05\x00\x48"); regex e2("\x81\x05\x00(.)"); smatch m; if (regex_match(h, m, e2)) { cout << "0. matched=" << (m[0].matched?"true":"false") << endl; cout << "0. match length=" << m[0].str().size() << endl; cout << "0. match character=" << m[0].str() << endl; cout << "1. matched=" << (m[1].matched?"true":"false") << endl; cout << "1. match length=" << m[1].str().size() << endl; cout << "1. match character=" << m[1].str() << endl; } But regex seems to have problems with the zero character because the result is: 0. matched=true 0. match length=2 0. match character=ü♣ 1. matched=false 1. match length=0 1. match character= If i change the code above to: string h("\x81\x05\x01\x48"); regex e2("\x81\x05\x01(.)"); and now the result is like intended: 0. matched=true 0. match length=4 0. match character=ü♣☺H 1. matched=true 1. match length=1 1. match character=H Technical it should be possible to work with zero characters in basic_string. result_of example?

I was trying to come up with a solution for the following problem: say, I want to declare this class template <typename T1, typename T2> class A { public: A( T1 x, T2 y ) : xy( x + y ) {} private: The_Right_Type xy; }; Or I want to declare a function template: template <typename T1, typename T2> The_Right_Type f( T1 x, T2 y ) { return x + y; } The problem is, of course, what is The_Right_Type? I could not get a solution better than something which would require me to "register" all types in some way (then I could get types of all expressions involving registered types). Then Scott Meyers suggested I look at boost::result_of. It looks very cool except I can't figure out how to use it :( I searched the Boost mailing lists, found some incomplete examples and some broken tinyurl links, but nothing which would show me how to use it. Looking at the proposal, I could see how it is used inside a template where I already have types, but not how to get a type out of an expression in the first place. Now the question: can result_of solve the problem above, and would someone be kind enough to show me an example of how to use it? Boost-1-32 multi_index compilation error on msvc6.

I am using MSVC 6 with Boost 1-32. boost::threads and dual processor Macs

We are having a problem that we have narrowed down to a problem with boost::threads on dual processor Macs. The very same software works fine, with boost::threads, on a single processor Mac. It also works fine with native Mac threads on a dual processor Mac. The crash is repeatable though, as threaded programs are wont to do, it crashes in slightly different places each time. The program does seem to crash during memory allocation. We have CodeWarrior 9 on its way to see if a compiler upgrade might address the problem, (there are some known problems with CodeWarrior 8 and threads, but only in debug builds. We see our crash in release builds as well). Our questions for the boost crew: -Are there any known issues with boost::threads and multi-processor machines? -Has boost::threads been tested on multi-processor machines? On multi-processor Macs? Details: Compiler: CodeWarrior 8.3 Computer: Dual processor 1.8Ghz Macintosh G5 OS: MacOS X 10.3.6 Boost: v1.31 -- Stephen W. compiling and using boost using vc toolkit 2003

Hi, Has anyone tried and have succeed in compiling and using boost from the command line using the vc toolkit provided by Microsoft? I have tried to compile boost using bjam but I get messages such as "The system cannot find the path specified." I have take care to define VC71_ROOT variable and included the appropriate \bin, \lib, \include directories. Thanks for the help. K

boost::threads: howto organize them ?

Hi Boost::Thread users (developers) During the past months I had to create a portable thread management shell around boost::threads to allow a simple thread management. The idea was to (implicitly) put each thread into a hierarchy (just like forked processes but with more features than boost::threadgroup offers). These threads now share a global structure to allow global access to their control interface (mainly a 'stop!' flag). Additionally I wanted to make threads requested to stop (triggered by themselves or from outside) implicitly stop their children and finally remove themselves from the thread management structures. It took me some time to make this approach a stable implementation (would have been much easier if boost::threads exposed their internal and platform-specific id). I think the idea of hierarchially organized threads is quite common and wonder how it could be *elegantly* designed using boost::threads. Any suggestions are welcome ! Martin.

Hello I would like ot use g++ to compile a programme which use boost regex To use regex I put this lines in the header of test_expreg.cpp : #include <boost/cregex.hpp> #include <boost/regex.hpp> The file compiles fine with this command line : g++ -c test_expreg.cpp -o test_expreg.o But I can't link : g++ -o test_expreg test_expreg.o Produce error : : undefined reference to `boost::RegEx::RegEx(std::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char> > const&, bool)' I tried : g++ -o test_expreg test_expreg.o -L/usr/bin -llibboost_regex And obtained this error : /usr/bin/ld: ne peut trouver -llibboost_regex Someone could tel me how compile correcly this programme that already compiles well en Microsoft Visual C++ but that I can't compile with g++ on Linux Fecora Core 3 Thanks, Laurent

Problems with compiling Boost 1.32.0 in RHEL 3.0 on Itanium2

First of all, Boost 1.32.0 can be compiled correctly in IA32 platform without any problems. But when I tried to compile it on Itanium2 system, I ran into the following problem: I issued the standard building command: bjam "-sTOOLS=gcc" install which supposes to compile both the debug and the release , both the static and the dynamic, both the single-threading and multi-threading versions, specified by the default value of the BUILD variable: "-sBUILD=debug release <runtime-link>static/dynamic <threading>single/multi" However an error always occurred when the compilation went to this place: gcc-C++-action bin/boost/libs/thread/build/libboost_thread.so/gcc/debug/shared-l inkable-true/threading-multi/barrier.o In file included from /home/xyg/downloads/boost_1_32_0/boost/thread/detail/confi g.hpp:18, from /home/xyg/downloads/boost_1_32_0/libs/thread/src/barrier.c pp:12: /home/xyg/downloads/boost_1_32_0/boost/config/requires_threads.hpp:47:5: #error "Compiler threading support is not turned on. Please set the correct command lin e options for threading: -pthread (Linux), -pthreads (Solaris) or -mthreads (Min gw32)" Since my Itanium2 runs RHEL 3.0 with the standard GCC 3.2.3, the same version of the GCC that I used to compile Boost in RHEL 3.0 on IA32 platform, I don't understand why this error happened.
