int64_t problem

Hi, I am using OpenInventor and boost 1.29 librariess. Both of them have defined int64_t: typedef __int64 int64_t; During compiling I get some errors: d:\work\projects\medint\dist\include\boost\cstdint.hpp(240) : error C2632: '__int64' followed by '__int64' is illegal d:\work\projects\medint\dist\include\boost\cstdint.hpp(240) : warning C4091: 'typedef ' : ignored on left of '__int64' when no variable is declared d:\work\projects\medint\dist\include\inttypes.h(75) : error C2632: '__int64' followed by '__int64' is illegal d:\work\projects\medint\dist\include\inttypes.h(75) : warning C4091: 'typedef ' : ignored on left of '__int64' when no variable is declared The only solution I found is to add #undef just before define at boost/cstdint.hpp: #undef int64_t typedef __int64 int64_t; But it looks as dirty solution. Maybe it is possilbe to solve this problme in more elegant way? P.S. adding #undef int64_t to boost/config/user.hpp only reduces the count of errors from 10 to 6. -- Sigis

I could be wrong, but I interpreted the OP's question to mean: is it possible to have the regex generate an error if more than one sub-field of a specific type is found, i.e. the following would be invalid: ~C123~C345 The original poster can correct me if I've misinterpreted anything. -- Jim

Problems Using boost:date_time library

I recently tried some simple tests of the Boost date-time library (Boost 1.30.0 MSVC6) and ran into problems. I don't have the original code in front of me (unfortunately I left it at work), but more or less, it looked like this: #include "boost/date_time/gregorian/gregorian.hpp" #include <iostream> int main() { using namespace boost::gregorian; date today = day_clock::local_day(); month_iterator it(today); std::advance(it, 3); std::string strDate(to_simple_string(*it)); std::cout << "New date is " << strDate << std::endl; return 0; } The first problem I ran into was that I got a linker error because the class greg_month (in greg_month.hpp) did not provide definitions for the following member functions: const char* as_short_string() const; const char* as_long_string() const; I quicky wrote some inline switch statements to get past that hurdle, but then the compiler started complaining when I tried to use std::advance. It is unfortunate that I do not have the exact error in front of me right now, but I did trace the problem to the definition of month_iterator. I found that if I derived its base implementation class from the class template iterator that it would compile without problems. Is this a problem with the STL that ships with MSVC6? Anyway, I was wondering if maybe there was something I had not set up correctly with my compiler that was causing me to get these errors. Any help would be appreciated. Is there any reason why date_time::partial_date<date> also exists as gregorian::partial_date, but date_time::first_kday_after<date> does not exist as gregorian::first_kday_after? Regex: matching either of 2 fields, in any order

I have a string that I'm searching, with sub-fields that are delimited by '~'. I'm particularly interested in 2 of the fields, either of which may or may not exist, in an unspecified order, and are identified by an initial 'C' and 'O' respectively. The 'C' is always followed by one or more digits, the 'O' is followed by one or more characters. For example, these are all valid. ~A123~C456~MA4 ~C12345~OA1~A123 ~A4~MH1 I'd like to see if I can use regular expressions to say, "If there is a 'C' field, replace the digits after it with these digits. If there is an 'O' field, replace the characters after it with these characters." I can do this quite easily with two different regex search-and-replaces; if the fields were always in the same order, I'd have no problem with that, either. Recently I wanted to perform an action on every object in a container of smart pointers (boost::shared_ptr). I couldn't seem to find a concise way to do so. [newbie] Question on embedding/extending with boost::python

Hi all -- I'm working on an app that is going to be a C++ code engine which will be heavily extended through a series of Python scripts (objects, really). My desired requirements are as follows: The environment is a C++ state machine, and each Python object should persistantly maintain its own state. I assume I can instanciate a Python object and maintain it in C++, then call it when necessary. a) Embed the Python interpreter b) Be able to pass values from the C++ state machine into the Python object for internal use c) Be able to call arbitrary Python functions from C++. I am currently doing this with an event registration handler, where scripts will handle events they want to handle, along with the function that should be called when the event is fired. d) Be able to update the C++ state machine with an interface exposed from C++ I can do a and b easily enough - the examples make that clear. Where I'm having trouble is with c and d - how do I give a Python app hooks into an existing C++ state machine? I know I can write an extension easily enough, but by my understanding, that will simply give the Python object access to a series of functions, and not the objects contained in the state machine that the interpreter is running under. I could use "pull" operations, wherein the C++ app polls the objects for changed state in a loop and updates its sate accordingly, but that seems that it wouldn't perform nearly so well as if the Python scripts were able to update the C++ state machine themselves, so I'm avoiding that route. I had a co-worker suggest that I use Python as my primary execution environment instead of C++. While this would admittedly make some things easier, how much performance would I sacrifice with this route? I'm building a 3D application, and it doesn't seem that Python would be well-suited to such an application in terms of performance. There is potential for literally tens of thousands of instances of these objects to exist in this state machine, and I certainly don't want to hinder performance by moving the primary execution into an interpreted environment rather than a compiled environment. Any words of wisdom? Or am I utterly failing to communicate clearly, as I think I am? ;) Thanks, Chris

Newbie: can't build Boot.Python with Borland bcc32 5.5.1

Hello. Sorry if the answer to this question is available elsewhere but I haven't found it yet. I would like to build the python library in boost_1_30_0 using Borland C++ Builder 5 (bcc32 version 5.5.1). Currently, this fails with a number of errors, the first and most significant being: Error E2401 C:\boost\boost_1_30_0\boost/python/object/inheritance.hpp 69: Invalid template argument list The statement around line 69 from inheritance.hpp is as follows: typedef typename mpl::if_c< is_polymorphic<T>::value , polymorphic_id_generator<T> , non_polymorphic_id_generator<T> >::type type; Is the borland compiler simply incapable of compiling this statement or (as is likely) have I missed something?
