Could we have some quick documentation for the automatic unit test macros?

[I don't know if the 1.33.1 trial has changed anything here.] The automatic unit test macros look interesting. There are even mentioned in the release notes for the Test library in 1.33.0. Unfortunately, that mention is the _sole_ appearance of those macros in the documentation. Even if the author can't afford to write a 20 page dissertation on those macros, a quick & dirty usage guide as an e-mail on this list would be appreciated. At least then the next programmer can Goggle for help. The macros listed are: BOOST_AUTO_TEST_CASE BOOST_AUTO_TEST_CASE_TEMPLATE BOOST_FIXTURE_TEST_CASE BOOST_AUTO_TEST_CASE_EXPECTED_FAILURES BOOST_AUTO_TEST_SUITE BOOST_AUTO_TEST_SUITE_END BOOST_AUTO_TEST_MAIN (and BOOST_AUTO_UNIT_TEST which is now a depreciated synonym for BOOST_AUTO_TEST_CASE). On a related note, what are the required files from Boost.Test needed to link these helpers with my test programs. [boost.python] GCC >=4 "-fvisibility=hidden" patch

Boost.Python's sources only deal with GCC's "-fvisibility=hidden" option for versions [3.5 - 3.9]. It should also work properly when built with GCC 4 and higher. The attached patches to boost/python/detail/config.hpp and boost/python/module_init.hpp enable it to do so. [graph][1.33.1] Failure in layout_test

Hi, layout_test of Boost.Graph fails on all the toolsets for which I run tests. The exit status is 139, which means segmentation violation. ltrace shows that for gcc 3.4.4 and for gcc 4.0.2 operator new() gets called countless times before the crash, and that for gcc 3.3.6 std::__default_alloc_template<true, 0>::allocate(unsigned int) gets called similarly often. Hello Simon, it's a nice implementation. Maybe you could add a timed enqueue and dequeue and a limitation (amount) for the work items in the queue. I could use the implementation form thread_queue in the same sandbox folder. boost::defer - generalised execution deferral

"Any interest in...?" This post asks the above question in relation to a possible library boost::defer which would live half-way between the Herb Sutter active/future thread model and the semi-raw facilities of boost::thread. Deferral here means 1. Do something later 2. Let something else decide which thread will execute the work Facilities like boost::function offer a way to wrap up a unit of work that can be deferred. (UOW) boost::defer would offer a way of posting the work unit to a Defer Point object that would call the unit of work in whatever is the appropriate thread. The Defer Point acts as a queue for scheduled work items Different polymorphic styles of Defer Point would implement different strategies for which kind of thread does the callback 1. single thread - owned by the Defer Point 2. Pool - staic or dynamic pool of threads owned by the Defer Point 3. win32 hidden window (dispatches callback on a gui thread) 4. NULL - Calling thread callback (i.e. do it now in the caller's thread) 5. Gating - Calling thread with mutex protection (serializes multiple threads thus protecting the called code) Any given defer point object can either be dedicated to a particular task, or can be shared throughout a program giving rise to a variety of ways of using system threads 1. One single thread defer point, reused throughout a program -> cooperative multi-tasking 2. win32 hidden window reused throughout -> cooperative multi-tasking on the gui thread 3. as above, but with another dedicated thread Defer Point (or pool) used for slow background tasks I've found these threading concepts to be useful in large-scale projects where multiple libraries want to do callbacks into some application code. Defer Points allow you to parameterise those libraries in such a way as to play nicely with eachother - deferring their callback strategy to a style defined by the programmer integrating the libraries into the final app. Its also handy where multiple entities in a program need to call into eachother, potentially recursively (A calls B calls A calls B) Better to break this recursion with queues of work items. So - any interest in more concrete code? More detailed explanations and scenarios? Cheers Simon
