As this implementation has been recently included to cope with some CW problems, maybe an easy workaround is to have it only for that platform, and revert to the previous "static void invoke" interface for other toolsets. Another alternative (not tested) could be resorting to a dummy non-null pointer: static const void_cast_detail::void_caster & invoke(){ static const void_cast_detail::void_caster * dummy_ptr; return * dummy_ptr; } I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, but I'm on a short vacation, away from my development environment (writing this from an Internet café.) Question about shared_prt doc's

In the documentation for the shared_ptr constructor that takes a weak_ptr parameter, it says that if the weak_ptr is empty then so is the constructed shared_ptr. But it also says that if the weak_ptr has a use_count() of 0 then a bad_weak_ptr exception is thrown. Since an empty weak_ptr has a use_count() of 0, these statements can't both be true. Potentially breaking change in VC8

Current builds of VC8 (newer than the June CTP) are implementing the change suggested by http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg21/docs/papers/2005/n1757.html I don't know how or if this affects any Boost code, but it's something to watch out for. I would expect the next CTP of VC8 may well include this change. -cd PS: The change makes code like this ill-formed: template <unsigned n> struct bit_count { enum { value = n ? bit_count<n >> 1>::value+1 : 0 }; }; template <> struct bit_count<0> { enum { value = 0 }; };

Since we are performing code checking on the preprocessed file our code checker is unable to check C++ files that contain "is_enum.hpp". This is clearly a bug in the Visual Studio C++ compiler, but my hopes are that the comments can be moved in Boost, e.g. towards the start of the macro function call or the end. Hello, A change to boost/serialization/base_object.hpp made 10 hrs ago is currently breaking virtually every Boost.MultiIndex test in every platform: as of now, already four engines are showing the problem, see for instance http://tinyurlcom/ccaqx. More will come. The bug is silly enough, some names are not declared but used when boost/serialization/base_object.hpp is included without having previously included any of boost/archive/*.hpp. Please somebody fix this, currently I don't have CVS access, can't do it myself. I don't want to sound harsh, but it is my humble opinion that this kind of trivial bugs should be checked against before commiting to the CVS. For the record, a similar problem (undeclared stuff if no archive header is included) popped up some weeks ago in exactly the same fashion, current vacpp results (not updated since quite some time) are a sad memory of that bug, see http://tinyurl.com/7tyda. This would be trivially detected before commiting if only a test would be added to Boost.Serialization testsuite that merely included serialization headers but no archive headers. No current test is doing that (except mine :) which is a serious hole wrt to source code coverage, as we're seeing now.
