[Range] terminology

[filesystem] Windows 9X support?

There have been two recent reports of Boost.Filesystem failures on Window 98. One involved Win98 using slightly different rules for network paths, the other was use of an unsupported function. The change to fix the first problem is very simple, but pervasive. It also applies only to the current version - the code is different for the i18n version, so will need to be tested again even if a change to the current version works OK. The second problem really needs testing, probably under a debugger. The full regression tests should also be run to ensure that more than one function isn't involved. I realize that those having to support legacy machines would like Boost.Filesystem to support Win 9X. But I don't really see any way to support 9X without some time consuming testing and debugging effort. But I just don't have the time and other resources to do that. So unless someone else volunteers to run Win 9X tests, debug problem reports, and submit patches, I'm not planning to try to support Win 9X. If anyone out there cares enough to volunteer some time and effort, please let me know. Thanks, --Beman

Hi when I use template <class traits, class Allocator, class charT> basic_string<charT> regex_replace(const basic_string<charT>& s, const basic_regex<charT, traits, Allocator>& e, const basic_string<charT>& fmt, match_flag_type flags = match_default); is there a way to make the fmt string be substituted as IT is? I mean if I specify "(\\)", for instance, I want that actually those four characters to be substituted for the occurrences of e in s, without any interpretation of ( and \. Of cource I could escape both ( and \, but I was wondering if there's an option to avoid this. thanks in advance Lorenzo

Look at your source code in test/weak_ptr_test.cpp. 1. You cannot assume the reference count of the shared_ptr going into the copy_assignment function is one. The spec says that compilers are allowed to make an optimization to eliminate a copy, but not mandated to do so. This means that the effective reference count upon entry to the function may be two, not one. To correct your unit tests, forcibly create a local object that you pass by value to guarantee the reference count is two upon entry for all compilers. Web page with compiler macros and versions

I want to create a web page for Boost in which each compiler supported by Boost is listed with the name of the preprocessor which needs to be examined to determine the compiler version, and the numbers, in hex or decimal, which correspond to each version. The web page would be in the form of a simple table, but any good CSS expert can spruce it up. Currently I have on my Windows machine, Microsoft VC6, VC7, VC7.1, Borland BCB3, BCB4, BCB5, and BCB6, and Comeau 4.3.3. I need information about any other Windows compiler/versions which Boost supports as well as information about any Linux compilers and other compilers. Responses from those who do regression tests for other compilers would certainly be helpful, or perhaps the reuslts of indivbidual regression tests, such as config_info.cpp, which I believe tells that information, are available.
