I tested the RC_1_34_0 branch of the boost CVS and would like to report
the experiances I gained by this:

1. Download: No real issue: I did not know about the cvs checkout -r xxx
switch
2. Documentation: Not all of the documentation is present for offline
reading. Therefore I followed the advice
given at

2.1 Installation of boostbook: I needed to install the following
packages:

     the build-dist.bat uses a bjam.exe for building. Isn't this a
hen/egg problem?
     As a result of this I not only got the bjam.exe but two of them and
the quickbook.exe
	boost/tools/jam/src/bin.ntx86/bjam.exe
	boost/tools/jam/src/boost-jam-3.1.14-1-ntx86/bjam.exe
	
boost/bin.v2/tools/quickbook/msvc/debug/link-static/quickbook.exe
    Copy of bjam.exe into my search path.
2.3.Building of quickbook.exe: Change into folder boost/tools/quickbook

2.4 Building of the documentation: Change to folder boost/doc and run
bjam.exe --v2
    =>	I got html documentation, but I saw a lot of warning and errors.
I won't reproduce them here because I didn't log them, sorry.
3. Building of the libraries: Change to the root folder and run bjam.exe

                        I would like to use boost::array as a class data member.
This raises a problem when constructing it in the
initialization list of the class members:
class A {
   boost::array<int, 3> a;
   A()
     : a(???) {}  // what do I write here ???
};
Is there a way to construct the data member efficiently?
By efficiently, I mean using copy constructors instead of
default constructors followed by assignments of array elements.
I have not found anything in the documentation on this question,
and the only initialization method mentioned there is the ={...}
syntax, which does not work in this case.  Did I miss anything ?
The way I managed to do what I wanted was to introduce an
auxiliary function:
   template < typename T > inline
   boost::array<T, 3>
   make_array(const T& b1, const T& b2, const T& b3)
   {
     boost::array<T, 3> a = { b1, b2, b3 };
     return a;
   }
and using it:
   class A {
     boost::array<int, 3> a;
     A()
       : a(make_array(1,2,3)) {}
   };
With a compiler doing the return value optimization, this does what
I need.
Do people think it is an important enough use case, that this would
warrant to be added to Boost.Array ?  What about TR1's array ?
Of course, it would require N overloads of the make_array()
functions (unless variadic templates are used :).  But at least
providing it for e.g. N<10 in boost would be useful, IMHO.

                        Hello,
I made a minor change in the type registration mechanism from using macros 
to this:
struct my_tag: boost::exception_info_tag<int> { };
This update addresses the issue of being able to register tags in 
user-defined namespaces. The updated documentation and source code can be 
found at

It is also possible to extend the interface to support enumeration of the 
exception info stored in boost::exception objects, but my personal 
preference is to first collect more feedback from people using the library, 
because I'm not sure if this enumeration is needed in practice. Brad King 
illustrated this idea in his earlier post:

I've also received feedback that boost::exception_info would be used fairly 
often and needs a shorter name. Maybe boost::xinfo? I hope someone comes up 
with a better name.

(5) uniform_01<random_generator, float> uni01(r) sometimes returns a
result outside [0,1).  Specifically it can return 1.0f because
(2^32-1)/2^32 rounds to 1.
I haven't delved into the code to see where all these problems arise.
However, it appears that getting some of these examples "right" is
complicated because the underlying random generators that boost uses can
have arbitrary min() and max() values.
In the case of mt19937 (and some of the other random generators) which
provides 32 bits of random data, the implementation can be made
considerably simpler and faster.  See for example

This is specialized to using the Mersenne-Twister generator.  However,
uniform integer, uniform real, and Bernoulli distributions are then
efficient and exact (under the assumption that mt19937 is a perfect
source of random bits).  Thus the "right" number of random bits are
delivered for float, double, and long double distributions; the uniform
integer distribution is exact and faster than boost's inexact
uniform_smallint; and so on.
Perhaps the boost libraries should include specializations for those
generators which return a whole number of random bits.

I've successfully used the Boost serialization classes to read our  
config file, as well as write updates to it.  It seems to work well  
enough, and i'm appreciative of the effort that someone put into  
making these classes work.
My question, though, is about this: There is another XML file that we  
have to read, that is generated by a server process that we do not  
directly control.  We're currently using TinyXML to read from this  
XML file, but we would like to replace its' usage with something  
Boosty.  The thing is, the current Boost serialization classes seem  
to need some special tags and attributes in the XML  
(boost_serialization tag, class_id / tracking_level / version  
attributes) to read from it, and the server process which creates  
this XML file doesn't put those attributes in there (and we would  
prefer to not have the maintainers of that process make a change just  
for us).  Is there another way I can use Boost to read from an XML,  
and fill an object with its' values (like the serialization classes  
do), without needing those special tags / attrbutes?

                        I'm trying to compile the asio Daytime.3 tutorial source from 
http://asio.sourceforge.net/boost_asio_0_3_7/libs/asio/doc/tutorial/tutdayt… 
and I'm getting an type error in an arg passed from asio to winsock. I'm 
going to try to grok the code in win_iocp_socket_service.hpp to 
understand the problem, but it's my first look at asio internals. (The 
tutorial builds correctly on Linux, not surprising as it's a windows 
specific binding.)
Any help or pointers are appreciated:
