Variadic Templates Redux

A while ago I announced the availability of an implementation of "variadic templates" for GCC. Variadic templates eliminate a huge amount of redundancy in several Boost libraries (including some that have gone into TR1), such as tuples, function, bind, mem_fn, and MPL. I have now completed the compiler (everything I've thought to try works) and completely reimplemented TR1's <tuple> and <functional> headers using variadic templates. The resulting code is much smaller, clean, and compiles significantly faster that the previous versions. Compiler binaries and sources, both including the implementation of TR1, are available here: http://www.osl.iu.edu/~dgregor/cpp/variadic-templates.html I think variadic templates are a big step forward for C++ libraries that deal with function objects, forwarding, and type-lists. If you're interested, please read the documentation, hack some code with the compiler, and tell your local C++ committee representative to vote for variadic templates in C++0x :) Cheers, Doug

Hi, I have written a bit of code to handle geometric vectors in a generic way, abstracting their dimension. The idea behind this code is to be able to apply one operation between two vectors, or a vector and a scalar, whatever their dimension, and writing it in an expandable way without having to modify any manipulation functions if a new geometric vector class is created. The other advantage is that the resulting assembly code is just as fast as if the functions had all been explicitly written. Right now I have three simple vector classes - ranging from vector2d to vector4d - that are not templetized since I like the idea of being able to access coordinates directly by their name vector3d vec; vec.x += 10.0f; to give you an example of the syntax, here is how you would add two vectors of different dimensions : vector2d v1(1.0f, 2.0f); vector3d v2(-1.0f, 3.0f, 2.0f); vector4d res; vector_add(v1, v2, res); /* res now contains (0.0f, 5.0f, 2.0f, 1.0f) */ the result is determined by the dimension of the third vector passed to vector_add. v1 is auto-promoted to act like a vector3d. v2 does not change. res gets (v1.x + v2.x, v1.y + v2.y, v1.z + v2.z, default_w_value). I didn't seem to find any information on a lib currently under development that provides geometric vector manipulation in that way - maybe apart from uBLAS - so I thought I would share this if anyone seems to be interested. [Sun][Serialization][Graph] Help with workaround for graph/serialize test

I'm trying to clear up the last remaining failures in the Graph library for 1.34.0, but one failure with the Sun compiler has me completely baffled. The failure is also shown here: http://tinyurl.com/zarxo Both the serialization and the graph libraries work almost flawlessly with this compiler, but in this case it appears that the compiler just isn't picking up the partial specialization for tracking_level (in boost/graph/adj_list_serialize.hpp). I tried dropping in a partial specialization of check_tracking and the compiler isn't finding that either. Anyone have any ideas? Workarounds? Cheers, Doug

access to 0x00000020. Which means that it is reading tss_data as being 0. This is being executed inside a parsing of a spirit grammar. A static grammar that's accessed by two threads (on a dual core CPU). It always strikes on the last "job". I'm using asio and create 100 sockets, connect them to a SMTP and start receiving and sending SMTP commands (using spirit to parse the responses). Everything is done asynchronously and the demuxer is executed by two threads. I'm not very sure why tss_data is being seen as 0, and more strangely in the last message. But prior any returning thread. (The main joins the second thread, but is always the main thread that hits this). Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance, -- Felipe Magno de Almeida

floating_point_promotion question

including the header file floating_point_promotion.hpp results in a compile error with the borland compilers. Is there any chance this could be enhanced to avoid this? This became apparent when building serialization library with borland compilers. This occurs because, the header is included via a the "convenience" header type_traits.hpp. Which in turn is used by spirit Note that this is an example where the usage of a "convenience" header turns out to be "inconvenient". In this case it makes the serialization libary and spirit dependent not only on the code existent when these libraries were written, but on future code as well. Robert Ramey

[fusion] Support for classic boost::tuple

Hi, Ok, as promised. Support for classic boost::tuple has been added. Now yer ole boost tuples are full fusion citizens. Now boost::tuple can do for_each, transform, fold, find, assign/convert to other fusion sequences, etc. Now there are 3 adapted sequences: 1) std::pair 2) boost::array 3) boost::tuples::tuple And, from the start, of course all MPL sequences are full fusion citizens too.
