formal review request : mcs::units

I hope I'm not running the risk of inducing Boost Unit burnout by making this request shortly after the review of Andy Little's proposal to add dimensional analysis and units to Boost...I'm hoping that the interest level will stay high enough to pull through one more review. Since the input from the recent informal review seems to have petered out, and I believe I've addressed the majority of the issues raised, this seems like an appropriate time to request a formal review of mcs::units. An issue that does concern me is feature creep - in the past, there seems to have been an ever-growing cycle of increasingly complex feature requests/needs/ desires. To try to focus the review, here is a summary of the intended scope of the library: mcs::units is a library providing zero-runtime overhead dimensional analysis for unit and quantity calculations. It provides support for 1) unit systems comprised of arbitrary sets of base units 2) arbitrary user-defined value types 3) support for heterogenous operator algebras (i.e. Z op(X,Y)) 4) support for basic outputting of quantities 5) optional support for implicit unit conversions It does not support 1) runtime units or quantities 2) input or parsing of quantities The most recent version (mcs_units_v0.5.7.zip) is in the Boost Vault (http://www.boost-consulting.org/vault/) in the Units directory. Hi, I couldn't find a way to do this. Maybe I have overlooked something. Anyway, making sure that operator<, operator== does the right thing is pretty important. I had in mind that I could say for( each i ) for( each i2 ) BOOST_CHECK_STRICT_WEAK_ORDERING( *i, *i2 ); which would check something like the following: if( !(*i < *i2) && !(*i2 < *i) ) { BOOST_CHECK( *i == *i2 ); } else if( *i < *i2 ) { BOOST_CHECK( *i != *i2 ); BOOST_CHECK( !(*i2 < *i) ); } else { BOOST_CHECK( *i2 < *i ); BOOST_CHECK( !(*i2 < *i) ); } -Thorsten

[variant] make_variant_over requirement

Hi, In the variant docs, in the make_variant_over section (Using a type sequence to specify bounded types), it is not clear what MPL sequence concept it is referring to. I was hoping it is a Forward Sequence, but I realized that when I try to use make_variant_over with a Forward Sequence, it fails trying to use mpl::clear, which hints that make_variant_over requires an MPL Extensible Sequence. This is rather undesirable. Is there a reason why this is so? Can't we lessen the requirement? The situation makes it not possible to use mpl views or fusion views for example. [FSM] Review version update

Hi, Once again I've uploaded the latest Boost.FSM version to the Vault. This update contains minor docs changes and (hopefully) fixes multithreading issues pointed out in the discussion earlier. The major addition in this update is a lightweight call_once implementation. I've tried my best to make it portable enough and fast, but I have absolutely no experience in some platforms I had to support. So, for example, BeOS and MacOS support is implemented exclusively by docs I've found for these OSes. I have no chance neither compile nor test it on a real platform like that. That said, I would be glad if someone experienced would have a look at that code or even try to compile it in the real environment. As a side note, I was thinking if this lightweight call_once implementation and memory barrier macros it incorporates should be extracted from the Boost.FSM library to some more common place, like boost/detail. This would make it more convenient to use the code from other libs, for example, a singleton implementation library that was under discussion not long ago. Is it reasonable?
