At the moment, the only testing infrastructure issue affecting regression results that I'm aware of is intel-linux-9.0 results in Sandia's results. This is not a blocker, since the same toolset is present in Martin's results, and is all green. Other failures look more like problems with libraries, compilers and their interaction, and that's something only library authors can solve. We talked about setting two-week period for addressing remaining failures. Two weeks from now is March 1. I would appreciate if library authors look at failures in their libraries and try to have them fixed by that date. On March 1, I'll mark all failures that are present as expected. It would be reasonable to declare complete code freeze at the same date. When changing anything in code, please post a patch to the list, so that everybody knows what changes are being done. Also, please refrain from committing anything to RC branch that is neither fix for a reported failure, nor a doc-only change. Thanks, Volodya

[1.34.0] Sandia test results

At the moment, we have two results for intel-linux-9.0 -- from Martin and from the Sandia test runner. The former are all green. The latter have a number of failures. Noel, it appears that you're trying to pass -j4 option to bjam. That does not work, because the regression reporting system has no way to separate output for different tests. On the other hand, I'm not sure how -j4 can lead to failures Looking at: http://tinyurl.com/2a45wj and http://tinyurl.com/323fb6 it seems that build dates for compilers are different. For Martin, it's 20050809 and for Noel it's 20060222. I don't quite understand how the same compiler version has different build dates. Noel, do you have any ideas? - Volodya

Boost.Graph - covering PropertyGraphConcept

I am trying to write a new type that covers some of the Graph concepts. I seem to be able to get most of the concepts covered except the PropertyGraph concept. I am having trouble figuring out the various types that are required (e.g., for property_map, etc.). Are there any straightforward examples of types that cover PropertyGraph and allow arbitrary (i.e., templated) types to be the vertex and edge properties? Thanks for your help. Cheers, Brook

(Sorry for the flashy topic, but I reported the bug already ages ago and I'm slightly annoyed that it is still present. But hey, at least I could restrain myself from using multiple exclamation marks.) Hi! If you compile libs/thread/src/exception.cpp, some compilers will warn you about an unused variable (the argument to system_message()) when not compiling for win32. Firstly, the fact that it doesn't use this variable but uses errno directly to format a string is already broken, after all I explicitly requested it to format a string for the given errorcode, not one that happens to be in errno at that time (well, you could argue that that is intended, after all the function is undocumented, but then you'd have to do the same with win32 and use GetLastError() there). Secondly, look at the way that function is used. It is used in thread_exception::message() to format a std::string temporary and then return the result of c_str() from a function! This returns a reference to a temporary and the returned pointer can never be used! It can't work, simple as that, it's broken and as far as I'm concerned it is even obviously so. Solution: remove thread_exception::message(), no sane code could ever have depended on that function anyway. Remove system_message() all along, it is unused then. There is a slew of other code that is intended to access strerror() (for POSIX) or FormatMessage() (for win32) in a portable way, which is then also unused (of course, after all system_message() is a wrapper around those and with it unused, those can go, too). Please, please, please fix this! I have attached the patch for current CVS but the same is already present in at least 1.33 and probably older versions, too. thank you Uli

Hi Steven, I've been thinking about extensions to the units library, particularly ways of simplifying the use of heterogeneous unit systems (units that are from mixed systems). For example, if a user wanted to define a unit for tracking FLOPs, it is reasonable that they might want to use units like FLOPs/second or FLOPs/(second*dollar) As it stands now, the user would have to add tags to, say, the SI system for FLOPs and for dollars. What I'm thinking would be nice is to decorate the dim<T,V>::tag_type so that it carries the system with it. Then your units could be composed of any set of fundamental units. The challenges I can see are: 1) how to ensure that list of these dims are sortable; you would presumably sort on system first, then on tag: let's call SI::system -> si CGS::system -> cgs length_type -> L mass_type -> M static_rational<N1,D1> -> r1 static_rational<N2,D2> -> r2 etc... then we would have mpl::list< dim< tag<si,L>,r1>, dim< tag<cgs,M>,r2>, dim< tag<si,T>,r3>, dim< tag<cgs,M>,r4> >::type getting sorted as two separate reduced dimension lists, with si first (specific order not important), then cgs. This would make constructs like (centimeter/kilogram)*meter*gram make sense. Clearly, they wouldn't auomatically reduce to one unit system, but I think it should be possible for the explicit constructor to check that every element in the list is convertible to the desired unit system, so quantity<SI::area> a(1.5*centimeter/kilogram*meter*gram); would actually work. 2) the process of determining if a unit belongs to a system gets a little more complicated (not too bad, though). I have a couple of questions for you: any ideas on how to make tags sortable without requiring them to be specifically enumerated? this would probably up the compile-time demands. how much slower would this make compilation?
