local variable shadowing

This is a minor coding style feature request: I find local variable shadow warnings helpful, but when I include my favorite boost libraries (lexical casts, pool allocators, random numbers) I always have to do a bit of patching to remove the warnings within boost first. While this is pretty easy to do, I thought I'd check whether this could be fixed on mainline. So, 1) what's the process for submitting patches for this? Do I just go through each library maintainer? and 2) is there any way to get a visible warning (the equivalent of gcc's -Wshadow) into the boost build/test process? Thanks, -Chris

Widely used C++ libraries, such as C++ Standard Library and Boost have long missed such facilities so that users had to refrain from using those due to mandatory element copying or fall back to techniques like two phase construction to insert logically non-copyable elements in containers and initialize them after that or insert pointers to dynamically allocated objects which is rather inelegant and inefficient since containers also dynamically allocate nodes. The most common use cases for intrusive containers are, when one would like to store non-copyable elements in a container when it's beneficial to avoid needless data copy in performance critical applications. The purpose of storing the product is that the values can be manipulated using ordinary arithmetic, i.e. the calculation (m/s^2) * (kg/m) = kg/s^2 would be represented as (for example) 3/2^2 * 5/3 = 5/2^2. (I should note that at least some of the computational advantages of this scheme over lists are lost when it becomes necessary to compute the l.c.d. and reduce the fractions. No idea whether this is a deal breaker, though.) If you store the exponents as bit patterns, then you can certainly be more space-efficient, but then the manipulations don't use ordinary arithmetic. However, considering that this scheme has the same disadvantage (less flexibility) as using primes, and seems to be more space-efficient... and also *might* be more time-efficient, maybe it should be considered as a possible alternative implementation, at least for benchmarking purposes.
