[announce] Dynamic object factory v2

I have uploaded in Vault a new version of dynamic object factory that I consider much cleaner and nicer then previous one. Vault file name is factory_25_1_2008.zip An object factory it's a facility that gives you an object of a given class when requested to do so. A dynamic object factory it's a factory where the class of object to be created together with it's c'tor arguments are passed to the factory as run-time variables, populated as example reading from a file or listening on a net connection. The main difference with a static factory is that the latter falls short when at compile time there is not enough information about what and how many objects will be instantiated at run-time because it depends, typically, on some form of external information. The aims of this dynamic factory implementation are - Simplicity and clear code - Flexibility in number and types of c'tor arguments - Type safe both at compile time and run time - Fall back on static factory behaviour when object information is known at compile time. In this case query for object is 100% compile time resolved with zero runtime overhead and with complete compile time type checking - Full mimic of native new operator, in particular implicit conversions of c'tor arguments are fully supported according to C++ rules Tough factory would need some boost libraries I have implemented in the included file util.hpp a (very) stripped down versions of the few traits and type list facility needed. The goal is to let user to check the factory without requiring boost although function names strictly resembles the boost ones. A side effect is a greatly reduced compile time (and very fast because factory is really small) Factory in itself is 100% pure C++, absolutely no libraries are required, even no libstd++, only local headers are used. Actually test.cpp driver program uses <iostream> and <string> but just for the test framework. Please read test.cpp for usage documentation, although I hope that factory code is so simple that is self-documenting. Finally I have tested with success factory implementation on gcc3.4, gcc4.2, Intel 10.1, MSVC 2008 and even Comeau C++ Online :-) versions 4.3.1 and later. Of course comments are welcomed. Marco

Runtime error when try to stop boost thread

Hi, all I got a runtime erro when try to stop a boost thread. I created a class(listed below) to wrap boost thread, and used it like this: ThreadWrapper tw(1);//delay 1 seconds tw.start(); … tw.stop(); When I called the function “stop”, a runtime error jump out said access conflict when running the line(in once.cpp,Line 163): HANDLE mutex = CreateMutexA(NULL, FALSE, strm.str().c_str()); I’ve tried the class in two MFC project. One has error, and the other one ran correctly. How strange! Is it a bug of boost? http://www.boost.org/libs/mpl/doc/refmanual/protect.html contains: typedef bind<_1, protect< bind<f,_1,_2> > > which contains no 'identifier ;'. OOPS, I missed the FIXME at top of example. However, putting that FIXME in read would help other's see it.

Runtime error when try to stop boost thread

Hi, all I got a runtime erro when try to stop a boost thread. I created a class(listed below) to wrap boost thread, and used it like this: ThreadWrapper tw(1);//delay 1 seconds tw.start(); … tw.stop(); When I called the function “stop”, a runtime error jump out said access conflict when running the line(in once.cpp,Line 163): HANDLE mutex = CreateMutexA(NULL, FALSE, strm.str().c_str()); I’ve tried the class in two MFC project. One has error, and the other one ran correctly. How strange! Is it a bug of boost? Hi, Is there any interest in a template geometry library? The library we are developing is basic 2D geometry library. In this library, data structures are small and simple (but polygons can still have holes). Nevertheless, the library provides a lot of useful algorithms such as point-in-polygon, line intersections and polygon clipping. We at Geodan are developing our library since 1995, and recently restructured, simplified and enhanced the geometry core. Now that it is clean and well designed, and still with years of experience, we aim to publish it in Boost under the Boost Software License. To give some impressions, points are like this: template <typename T> class point { (...) inline const T& x() const (...) inline const T& y() const (...) }; and lines are completely empty, like this: template <typename P> class linestring : public std::vector<P> { }; (Besides that you can also specify another container). Data and algorithms are separated, so there are algorithms like: template <typename P, typename POL> bool point_in_polygon(const P& p, const POL& pol); and like this: template <typename S1, typename S2, typename MP> intersection_result intersection_segment(const S1& segment1, const S2& segment2, MP& multipoint); but also generic wrappers like a "within" algorithm which is defined for all relevant geometry types template <typename P1, typename P2> inline bool within(const P& p, const polygon<P2>& poly) Because the library is completely templatized, you can use your own geometry types, and/or container types (provided that they follow the basic interface). The library follows std:: and boost:: standards and conventions, as well as the OGC (The Consortium on Standards in Geographical Information Systems) conventions. I know there have been discussions before on geometry libraries and on CGAL, e.g. http://lists.boost.org/Archives/boost/2007/03/117582.php. We are using boost in our library since about 2000. If there is interest I will complete the documentation and examples according to Boost standards, and prepare a submission.
