[threads|interprocess] thread_locking_policy and process_locking_policy

Hello, I'm defining a class Locally Unique Identifier (see http://lists.boost.org/Archives/boost/2008/03/134088.php) that has a locking policy. This locking policy needs to define a mutex_type and a scoped_lock types. This could be null_locking_policy for monothreaded usage, thread_locking_policy for multi-threaded access and process_locking_policy for multi-process access. The problem is that when I try to initialize the scoped lock with a try_to_lock the types and variables are differents, even if both mùean the same. And so I need to add a function try_to_lock in the policy. struct thread_locking_policy { typedef boost::mutex mutex_type; typedef boost::mutex::scoped_lock scoped_lock; static const boost::try_to_lock_t try_to_lock() {return boost::try_to_lock;} }; struct process_locking_policy { typedef boost::interprocess::interprocess_mutex mutex_type; typedef boost::interprocess::scoped_lock<mutex_type> scoped_lock; static boost::interprocess::detail::try_to_lock_type try_to_lock() { return boost::interprocess::try_to_lock; } }; IMO we need to armonize the threads and interprocess synchronization interfaces. I don't know where these types and variables could be, but we need that both libraries use the same type and variable. Anyway, these trivial classes will be redone by each user defining a class that manage the synchronization in a wide context. Is there an interest in these locking policies classes. We can add recursive_thread_locking_policy and recursive_process_locking_policy . Where these classes could be placed. Why not in an new boost/sync directory? I"m getting a "pre-commit hook error" which complains about the mimi-type. The name of the file is: polymorphic_iarchive_route.hpp (a new file) an its svn properties are: svn:eol-style native svn:keywords Id svn:mim-type text/plain What do I have to do to beable to check this in? Robert Ramey

For the third year in a row Boost has been selected as a mentoring organization for Google Summer of Code. BoostCon 2008 -- Session Announcement

I'm happy to announce that the preliminary 2008 BoostCon program is on the web site. http://www.boostcon.com/program/sessions I'm quite pleased and excited with the program. We have tutorials and lectures on many core Boost libraries with topics including threading, serialization, networking, C++0x features, high performance generic programming, text processing, and more. We will also have a new 'Library in a Week' workshop to extend Boost.Algorithm. A new feature this year, based on feedback from last year, will be Author's Corner sessions where library authors discuss and answer questions about their libraries. And, finally, Bjarne Stroustrup with the keynote address. We hope to have the final program and schedule completed shortly. Note that while these sessions represent the bulk of the program we have a few more sessions in the works and are still looking for a couple more sessions to fill out the program. Proposed: a new sequence adapter for MPL (product_view)

I apologize in advance if something along these lines is already available; however current public documentation doesn't mention such a facility and a brief glance into SVN did not reveal one either... product_view Description: provides a view of a Cartesian product of multiple sequences. Modeled after zip_view in that it expects a sequence [of length n] of sequences S1...Sn as its argument and lazily generates a sequence [of length Prod{1...n}( size< Si > )] of sequences S1[1]...Sn[1] through S1[n]...Sn[n]. Whew... I know I can write better documentation than that if I put my mind to it :( I have attached a proof of concept implementation and a short test program. The code appears to compile and work with MSVC 2003 & 2008 and with GCC 4.2. It is not [yet] Boostified. My use case: I needed this adapter to write a dynamic dispatcher for a known set of template instances (poor man's dynamic template instantiation). Regards, ...Max...
