That in itself is not a problem, since unsigned fixed-length integers have a well-known and standard behavior. The problem is: what should the library do if the user asks for an unsigned *non*-fixed-length integer? The options I've come up with so far, in order of my personal preference: A: Make the unsigned option part of the fixed-length option, so it *can't* be specified separately. (The most elegant solution, but perhaps not the most useful.) B: Refuse to compile (or if I can't find a way to do that, instantiate) it, on the grounds that the combination can't logically be supported. C: Throw an exception if any calculation results in a negative number. (Not very useful, but logical because under the built-in types' unsigned rules, a negative number in an unlimited-length library would be infinitely long.) D: Force any negative numbers to a different value, such as zero or maybe their positive counterparts. (I can't think of any use for this, I just put it here for completeness.) Can anyone think of a potential reason for options C or D? Or a reason to prefer option B? [Fusion] Permission to update release branch and roll in dependencies

Dear release team, we're about to freeze the next release. I'd like to kindly ask for your permission to address the issues discussed in this thread http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.devel/198532/ before it's too late, again. Reportedly the outdated files do - other than hoped in that thread - NOT work anymore - and neither do the new and documented ones for the lack of dependencies. So, what I'd like to do is: o merge trunk changes into the Functional module of Fusion o add Forward o optionally add Factory Please check the new mini libraries for "release compliance" and give me a go on the fix. Would be too bad to go with a partially defunct Fusion in two releases for bureaucratic reasons. Please also note that rolling back to a proper previous version might involve more changes and will complicate future merges for us. Regards, Tobias

Hi, I'd be interested in comments on an introspection library I've been developing. there has been no "Is there any interest..."-e-mail yet, as it was started out of necessity in "namespace detail" of another library, so you're also welcome to express interest/disinterest in a library like this, without any specific comments. source code: https://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/browser/sandbox/intro/boost/intro/ the library defines a concept that exposes the members of a class, for introspection algorithms to work with. e.g. the "print" algorithm applied to a simple object implementing the concept yields the following results: intro::print(a,std::cout); ---- { A_base = { int member_of_base = 789; }; int a = 123; float b = 456.7; vector<int,class std::allocator<int> > vec = {2, 4, 6, 8, 10}; } --- other algorithms that are currently implemented: - apply_members[_binary]: apply a user-supplied functor to each member - apply_recursive: follow pointers, references, STL container elements, etc. - serialize: serialization of an object tree of 1M objects: 80 ms. Boost.Serialization: 330 ms. serialization of an object graph of 1M objects: 410 ms. This is a request for comments on a delimited string inserter/extractor facility for Boost. The initial motivation is a need for Boost.Filesystem class path inserters and extractors to handle paths with embedded spaces. The problems stems from standard library stream I/O not round-tripping strings with embedded spaces, so a general solution might be of interest. It is a bit surprising that Boost doesn't seem to already have such a utility. The general solution presented here follows very common practice as to the format: strings are enclosed in delimiters on output and the delimiters (if present) are stripped on input. In the external format, an escape character precedes itself or the delimiter character should either be present in the string. The default delimiter character is the double-quote (") and the default escape character is the backslash (\). These defaults can be overridden. Regression tests machines

I am managing some spare machine with reasonable performances and compiler selection that are basically underused at the moment (including various i64, AMD and PowerPC server blade) with both gcc and icc. I guessed they could be used to run the boost regression test on a dialy or weekly basis. I found out about the : http://www.boost.org/development/running_regression_tests.html page but I wanted to know if there is any speficic need in term of paltofrm/compiler coverage or if I can just run whatever and push the regression result up ?
