Interest in simple unformatted binary stream I/O?

There have been many requests on Boost and various C++ newsgroups for unformatted binary I/O. For example, in 2003 Neal Becker wrote: I wonder if anyone has code for implementing unformatted I/O? What I have in mind is for the simple case where the application that reads data knows the data types, so this is not as complicated as the general marshalling situation. This proposal provides a very simple solution that works with standard library input and output streams. [serialization] or [spirit] JSON Archives

Hi, After experimenting with Spirit.Qi to make a JSON parser, I had the need for a serializer. First, I thought I could serialize my model of JSON (json:: value, json: object, etc.), but that was not compatible with boost::serialization. I am currently writing a ARCHIVE for Boost Serialization, but I'm finding some problems in order to implement JSON correctly. The question is, does anyone know about some files to Boost Serialization already finished? I've seen the Archive made by Esteve Fernandez, but do not serve my purpose, because I just need JSON. I would like to develop a JSON parser which in turn is a compatible Boost Serialization serializer . Any ideas? Thanks and regards, Fernando Pelliccioni.

Acknowledgement for Certs 4 Less

All--- For some time now, Boost has been using the CA-signed wildcard SSL certificate that was very generously donated by Certs 4 Less. I promised them, in return, that Boost would acknowledge them on our website, as we have done in the past for other donors. We acquired the certificate so we could accept e-payments for BoostCon, but in the end we decided to pay EventBrite to take payments for us... so as far as I know, the cert is only being used at the moment for https://svn.boost.org Two questions: 1. Where does the acknowledgement belong? 2. Can someone who knows how put it there? P.S. [rpc] Introducing Boost.Reflect, Boost.CMT, and Boost.RPC

I have just recently completed my first alpha release of a generic RPC library designed to support different protocols (JSON, XML, Protocol Buffers) and different transports (UDP, TCP, HTTP) in a generic manner. Currently only JSON over TCP is implemented. This library builds on top of my Boost.Reflect library which provides simple reflection along with a generic type-erasure construct, boost::reflect::any_ptr<T> Lastly all of this builds on top of my Boost.CMT (Collaborative Multi-Tasking Library) which seems to be along the same lines as Oliver's Boost.Strand library, but with a simpler interface. It is built on top of Boost.Context. This allows the RPC to be asynchronous, thread-safe, and free of nasty completion handlers. I have documentation of all three libraries posted here. http://bytemaster.github.com/dev/modules.html I would like to know if I am barking up the right tree here and if anyone has any feedback. If someone has a real project they would like to see this code incorporated into I would be more than willing to focus my development effort toward those needs.

Hi Christophe I'm running the attached test program it generates the following output : entering: Idle MS1_ leaving: Idle Action: MS1::onEvent1 entering: RunningStateMachine MS1_ entering: RunningStateMachine::PseudoEntry1 leaving: RunningStateMachine::PseudoEntry1 entering: Inner1 RunningStateMachine_ entering: InnerState11 FwdGuard: returns:0, event: event5 FwdGuard: returns:0, event: event1 FwdGuard: returns:0, event: event1 FwdGuard: returns:0, event: event5 FwdGuard: returns:0, event: event1 FwdGuard: returns:0, event: event1 FwdGuard: returns:0, event: event5 FwdGuard: returns:0, event: event1 FwdGuard: returns:0, event: event1 FwdGuard: returns:0, event: event5 I believe it is incorrect after state machine entered state InnerState11 . FwdGuard should have been called ones with event5 and than 3 times with event1 and event1 shall have triggered after the first dispatching a no transaction. But this case no trans was triggers on even1 and and the deferred event5 got dispatched even there was no state change for every event1 dispatching. this breaks our code execution completely :(. Br. Hello, When I was trying to answer an another thread, I encountered strange behavior. (Re: [boost] [msm]exit pseudo state and event) See 18_InternalTransitionTableTest.cpp. (attached file) I believe that internal_transition_table should work correctly without transition_table. Here is internal_transition_table. // Internal Transition table struct internal_transition_table : mpl::vector< // Event Action Guard msmf::Internal < Event1, Action1_1 ,Guard1_1 > > {}; But Event1 isn't dispatched. I don't understand why. [Locale] On Mac OS X 10.6 fails to find iconv

Hello, I need a help from Mac OS X users, I have many faults on Darwin: http://beta.boost.org/development/tests/trunk/developer/locale.html Where all GCC's are related to inability to find iconv for some reason. On my darwin 8.01 x86 I have no problems to compile this simple program: has_iconv.cpp #include <iconv.h> int main() { iconv_t d = iconv_open(0,0); (void)(d); } With g++ has_iconv.cpp -liconv Also BBv2 script of Boost.Locale finds the iconv without a problem, so I'm quite lost. So if anybody that uses Boost from svn-trunk can check why has_iconv test fails (if it is on their machines) and see if ./bjam libs/locale/test prints ....... - iconv (libc) : no - iconv (separate) : no ....... And for what reason (if the sample code above compiles) I would be grateful. Because I have no idea what happens there and I don't have Mac only Darwin 8 which handles it properly. How to use BCP

I'm updating a small C program to take in a options from either environment variables, or a config file and having long heard of boost as a great resource decided to give the program_options module a try. Since the utility is small and I don't have any current plans for other boost functionality it doesn't make sense to include the full BOOST library, so I tried to use bcp to get only the files I'm interested in. I was able to get a subset of boost code that I should be able to use with bcp, however I don't know how to compile the program_options library for linking in my code. >From a bit of googling it looks like bjam is the build tool, but it doesn't seem to be included with the subset of files I have. How would I go about incorporating boost so that all of the necessary source and associated utilities are included for an end user to build from. I should be able to issue a series of simple commands (looks like ./bootstrap.sh and make) to build and install my library with statically linked in boost. -Will Voorhees

Lock-free data structures can be accessed by multiple threads without the necessity of blocking synchronization primitives such as guards. Lock-free data structures can be used in real-time systems, where blocking algorithms may lead to high worst-case execution times, to avoid priority inversion, or to increase the scalability for multi-processor machines. The following data structures are provided: - boost::lockfree::fifo, a lock-free fifo queue - boost::lockfree::stack, a lock-free stack - boost::lockfree::ringbuffer, a wait-free single-producer/single-consumer ringbuffer. The library is accessible from here: http://tim.klingt.org/boost_lockfree.tar.gz. Boost.Lockfree depends on C++0x atomics. They are not well supported with current compilers yet. For this reason Boost.Lockfree depends on the *unreviewed* Boost.Atomic library, that emulates C++0x atomics for C++98.
