Hi All. I updated the recently discussed RTL example to demonstrate the performance gain that can be achieved by using the RTL transaction mechanism. The original query, that involves a self-join of the ~20,000 row table on a complex condition, currently takes ~79 sec. on my setup (1.5 Ghz, MinGW, g++ -O2). Then a record is removed from the table, which invalidates all the indexes built by that point. The transaction commit repairs indexes, and the query is re-run. Update, commit, and re-run together take just 1 sec. [MPL.Math] More major changes.

A new directory, boost/mpl/math/unsigned_big_integral_, holds everything pertaining to unsigned_big_integral. The corresponding tag and forward declaration also have their own header files now. Also, enlarge_integral and its forward declaration have their own files as well. This should maximize decoupling of the three entities. The big_integral.cpp example and test programs have been updated to reflect these changes. As for double, whole_part and rational_part have been improved, but you'll need to #include unsigned_big_integral and rational to use them. Major limitation: attempting to calculate the rational_part of any double smaller than 1e+30 will most likely break your compiler's back; unsigned_big_integral and rational still won't mix. Reviews of binary int utility are needed. The tool is very small (but useful) and review should not take much of time. Both Scott Schurr and Matt Calabrese put quite a lot of effort into their work. Scott Schurr's version is in http://boost-consulting.com/vault/ (file binary_int.zip). Bounded types

Hi group, Some time ago I've written a set of class templates for bounded types (types whose variables may hold a value only from within a specified range). You can download the sources at http://www.rk.w.pl/progz/bounded. I've created a thread in comp.lang.c++.moderated (http://groups-beta.google.com/group/comp.lang.c++.moderated/browse_frm/thre ad/0298fc4ac6c6d223/) as I was hoping to work the project on and maybe transform it into a proposal for the C++0x standard library, but unfortunately the feedback was very low. Just today I saw in this newsgroup a thread titled "Checked Integral Class" concerning a very similar facility so I'm writing this post to call attention to my implementation. Maybe it would be better to include such class templates in Boost first, and then think about making a proposal for the C++ standard... Unfortuantely there's no documentation yet as this is only a sketch for further refinements, but comments in the code and posts in comp.lang.c++.moderated may answer some of your questions about design decisions and usage. If not then please ask them here or on comp.lang.c++.moderated. Any comments and suggestions are welcome. BOOST_WORKAROUND and g++ -Wundef

Compiling the attached code with g++ 3.4.4 as g++ -Wundef -Iboost/cvs -o trial trial.cpp produces a heap of warnings warning: "__BORLANDC__" is not defined warning: "_MSC_FULL_VER" is not defined warning: "__MWERKS__" is not defined The warnings are produced by code like: #if BOOST_WORKAROUND(__MWERKS__, BOOST_TESTED_AT(0x3003)) and are, of course, silenced by: #if defined(__MWERKS__) && \ BOOST_WORKAROUND(__MWERKS__, BOOST_TESTED_AT(0x3003)) Grepping around the boost sources, I see that my 'fix' has been applied about 70 times already in the 1260 uses of BOOST_WORKAROUND. Assuming that the lack of consistency reflects only the size of the task, I've made a patch applying the fix to Boost.Random. Chipping away at the block... Hoping that this is useful, Angus
