Hi, I have checked the entry for DataSolid at http://freespace.virgin.net/boost.regex/who/html/who_s_using_boost_/shrink.… and I have detected two small errors: 1. It would be fine to delete the phrase professional as the product line is just named 'CADdy++ Mechanical Design'. This was my fault, sorry. 2. 'CAFdy++ uses the ...' should be 'CADdy++ uses the ...' Hydranode Project is using Boost libraries

Hydranode Engine is a plugin-driven P2P client engine that relies heavily on Boost libraries. Hydranode codebase is licenced under GNU GPL, and is developed mainly by Alo Sarv. Currently in Beta phase, Hydranode runs on wide range of platforms, including Windows, Linux, BSD, Mac OS, Solaris etc. Hydranode Engine and plugins rely heavily on the following Boost libraries: Bind, Function, Lambda, MultiIndex, Signals, Threads, SmartPtr, Format, LexicalCast. Other Boost libraries being used include FileSystem, StringAlgo, DateTime, ProgramOptions, Spirit, Random, Tokenizer, TypeTraits, Tribool, Tuple and Any. Once Boost 1.33 is released, I'm also looking forward to using Boost.IOStreams library in Hydranode. All complex data structures in Hydranode are implemented using MultiIndex containers, which significantly reduced development time and kept code clean. Format is being used for all text formatting. [serialization] add_facet, VC7.1, and overloading operator new

Hi, I've been playing around with overloading global operator new and delete and came across a problem concerning facets with VC7.1 in debug mode. Internally facets are reference counted and destroyed in [locale0.cpp - locale::_Locimp::~_Locimp()] via a macro _DELETE_CRT [xdebug]. Now when _DEBUG is defined this macro will not call 'operator delete' directly. So any facets added to a locale using 'operator new' will not be freed with 'operator delete'. In my case this leads to an assertion in dbgheap.c. This is because the heap manager correctly recognizes that it was not responsible for the allocation. boost/archive/impl/basic_text_iprimitive.ipp: add_facet( std::locale::classic(), new codecvt_null<BOOST_DEDUCED_TYPENAME IStream::char_type> ) Minimal example is appended to the bottom of this post. As for a possible work around (read hack) you can use _NEW_CRT instead of new directly. A some what nicer hack^H^H^H^Hsolution may be to get add_facet to perform the actual facet allocation itself using _NEW_CRT instead of the caller. [test] investigating Borland test_fp_comparisons failure

The borland test failures all come down to failing CHECK_NOT_CLOSE macros defined within the test file. My understanding is poor, because it looks to me that the following cases SHOULD fail: CHECK_NOT_CLOSE( 0, 1e-20, 1e-5 ); CHECK_NOT_CLOSE( 0, 1e-30, 1e-5 ); CHECK_NOT_CLOSE( 0, -1e-10, 0.1 ); CHECK_NOT_CLOSE( 0.123456, 0.123457, 1e-4 ); CHECK_NOT_CLOSE( 1.111e-10, 1.112e-10, 0.08999 ); CHECK_NOT_CLOSE( 1, 1.0002, 1.1e-2 ); However, it is clear the following is a genuine error: CHECK_NOT_CLOSE( 0.123456, -0.123457, 1e-3 ); I am obviously missing something, as the majority of compilers pass the test as written. -- AlisdairM

[logging] flush_log_cache doesn't flush everything?

I'm not sure I understand correctly, but it appears that flush_log_cache in the logging library doesn't actually force everything in the pipeline to be written by the logging thread to be written. Empirically, it seems that I had to add a sleep to the end of my program to cause everything to be written. Code-review-wise, and here I'm pretty sure I don't completely understand, it appears that flush_log_cache pushes things further down the pipeline but doesn't actually synchronize (wait for) the writing thread to complete. It seems like there maybe should be some kind of routine that "blocks" until all pending writes are complete, maybe just a wrapper around the ability to request the writing thread to finish, and then wait for it to complete. Maybe this mechanism is already present? I suppose that brings up other complications, such as what if some other thread logs something after we've asked it to stop. In the code I was testing, I had a ts_appender, to which I added a appender_array, to which I added 4 write_to_files. For ~ 10 seconds I wrote to the log. Then I call flush_log_cache.
