Header error using boost.regex 1.32 built using vc6

Hi Folks, I'm a newbie gingerly moving over from MFC. I have built and installed regex from the boost_1_32_0 package without any obvious problem. Now I've included the simplest use of regex taken from the overview and: a) I get a compile error in regbase.hpp. As a temporary workaround I've tried using V3 instead and: b) I get a link error (debug & release) Can someone help me overcome this please? Many thanks. fstream_test.cpp won't compile using VC++ 6.0

I receive errors when I try to compile fstream_test.cpp using Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0. The first error I receive is this: fstream_test.cpp c:\boost\include\boost-1_32\boost\filesystem\fstream.hpp(29): error C2504: 'basic_filebuf<char,char_traits<char> >': base class undefined c:\projects\examples\fstream_test.cpp(27): see reference to class template instantiation 'boost::filesystem::basic_filebuf<char,char_traits<char> >' being compiled Is there a workaround for this? Thanks.

lexical_cast update + Boost.Test question

Hi. lexical_cast has now been updated in the CVS, with the following, as has been reported as bugs or suggested improvements: - Fixed so it doesn't trim any whitespace when converting (it used to throw on " 123" -> int, but not on "123 " -> int, which was inconsistent). - Fixed reversed bad_lexical_cast constructor arguments. - lexical_cast now uses pass-by-const reference. For compilers lacking support for partial specialisation of class templates (like MSVC 6), it falls back on pass-by-value. Sorry for the late update. It's been quite busy at work lately, so it's been hard to concentrate on non-work projects, but I'm now more on top of things. I'll read up on any lexical_cast-related postings, and can make subsequent updates, should it be desired. I'll also check up the results after the next regression test run, to see if there are any remaining issues. The changes are of course done in cooperation with Kevlin. It has been tested on Intel C++ 7.1, MSVC 2005 Final Beta, g++ 3.4 and Borland C++ Builder X, and all tests pass there. I get errors (from Boost.Test) when trying to run the test on MSVC 6, but testing lexical_cast by itself seems to work. Might Boost.Test have a problem with MSVC 6? By the way, I don't see the changes using the Boost ViewCVS, but it's listed e.g. with "log". Are the ViewCVS results cached, somehow, or may the commit have ended up on some other place than the trunk? I did make sure to check out the trunk, before commit. Regards, Terje

reset_and_collect root determination and sp_collect similarity

Hi Peter, The code here: http://lists.boost.org/boost-users/2005/05/11805.php appears to require the user to specify the root pointers in order to do a complete collection. This is in contrast to sp_collect.cpp which used Christopher's method [chri84] cited here: http://www.cs.kent.ac.uk/people/staff/rej/gcbib/gcbibC.html to find the roots, at least AFAICT. Is this intentional, or is the above code in 11805.php simply a sketch of a method which will eventually use something like Christopher's. I ask because some of the code in 11806.php appears similar to some in sp_collect.cpp. For example, I'm guessing that the map2_type in sp_collect corresponds to the map_type in reset_and_collect, i.e. the key is sorted on the referent, and the value is the number of smart_ptr's to that referent that are on the heap. [program_option, throw_exception] misterious borland failures

Hello, I've tried to dig into program options runtime failures on borland. Consider this code, from cmdline.cpp (cmdline::finish_option): const option_description* xd = m_desc->find_nothrow(opt.string_key, (m_style & allow_guessing)); if (!xd) { if (m_allow_unregistered) { opt.unregistered = true; return; } else { throw_exception(unknown_option(opt.string_key)); } } const option_description& d = *xd; Running in the debugger, I see that 'xd' is NULL, m_allow_unregistered is false, and the execution arrives on "throw_exception". After that, *nothing happens*, and program goes on dereferencing null pointer and using the obtained reference. If I replace throw_exception with "throw", the tests fails later, and if I replace all throw_exception's with throw in the module, test passes. So I have two questions: 1. Did anybody else had this problem with throw_exception 2. If throw_exception function does not work with borland, maybe it should become macro on that compiler? Specific version of compiler is 5.6.4, part of CBuilderX Personal. - Volodya
