Hello, attached patch solves a problem with the singleton implementation in the test library surfacing on Tru64/CXX. On this compiler, we need an explicit instantiation of the singleton template, otherwise multiple copies of the singleton are created. Ok to apply? Hello All, I know that my idea is trivial but this thing is missing in Boost. In some cases it is useful to have copy-on-write objects. For example, everybody knows that returning std::string from a function is not very efficient (actually that's why in Qt strings are implemented as copy-on-write ones). Consider following code: copy_on_write< std::string > concatenate( const std::string &first, const std::string &second ) { copy_on_write< std::string > result; result->assign( first ); result->append( second ); return result; } // somewhere else std::cout << *concatenate( "Hello,", " world!" ) << std::endl; Here no string copy occurs. One can invent a lot of different applications of copy-on-write techinque (strings, iterators, memory pages). I have an implementation, now let community decide if this can be a part of Boost. How are boost/mpl/aux_/preprocessed files generated?

I see in libs/mpl/preprocessed/pp.py there's: self.output.write( \ '\n%s\n' \ '// Preprocessed version of "%s" header\n' \ '// -- DO NOT modify by hand!\n\n' \ % ( self.copyright, match.group(1) ) ) and I've tried to understand from the rest of the *.py how to do it, but I would be a lot easier with some guidance from the authors. What I need to do is change: vectorX_c< T,C0 > to: vectorX_c< T,T(C0) > for each X=1... This would allow the use of an enumeration for C0. TIA.

[test]unclear failures

Hi,, Here some Boost.Test failures I do not understand: 1) test_tools_test fails under CW 9.4/9.5 >From what I gather it looks like that BOOST_MESSAGE( std::hex << std::showbase << 20 ); prints something different from 0x14 Any ideas? 2) errors_handling_test Failes only under cw-9.5-darwin. Could somebody run this test with --save_pattern=yes option and collect the file generated? 3) basic_cstring_test Failes under como-4_3_3-vc7_1 with prelink errors (http://tinyurl.com/b6cpe) Any help/explanation apriciated. 4) token_iterator_test Failes at runtime (abort) under gcc- 3.4.4- linux and gcc- 4.0.0- linux. My guess it's compler bug. Could somebody confirm? 5) test_fp_comparisons Failes at runtime under borland- 5_6_4. All CHECK_NOT_CLOSE assertions failes for some reason. could somebody handy with this compiler figure out why? 6) token_iterator_test Failes under mingw (3.2.3) during linking with undefined reference to std::char_traits<wchar_t>. I know that mingw doesn't have wchar_t. But BOOST_NO_CWCHAR is not defined for some reason. 7) Also gcc- 4_0_0- linux- i686- release failes ifstream_line_iterator_test (looks like compiler crashed) and parameterized_test_test(runtime failures) for which I do not have any explanations. Excuse my being a little insistent on this,but I think the problem should be addressed one way or another, as it's causing tons of regressions. I've prepared a patch for tools/build/v1/boost-base.jam (attached). Is it OK to commit? [regex] nested negated character classes

The following trivial pattern: boost::regex pat("[\\D]"); throws an "Invalid or trailing backslash" exception. This is in violation of the ECMAScript (ECMA-262) specification, section 15.10.1, which means Boost.Regex does not satisfy TR1. Known problem?
