[function] is function_equal used?

The documentation says that comparisons require EqualityComparable, and contains_test never tests with objects that define function_equal instead of operator==. Also, there seems to be no test for boost::bind objects being put in a function<> (although there is one for lambda::bind). The reason I'm posting this is that I just switched boost::bind to implement function_equal instead of operator==, and this functionality isn't covered by our current tests. -- Peter Dimov http://www.pdimov.com

[xpressive] doc bug?

The xpressive docs say sregex rex = sregex::compile( "(\\w+) (\\w+)!" ); can be expressed as sregex rex = (s1= +_w) >> ' ' >> (s2= +_w) >> '!'; . Shouldn't this be sregex rex = +_w >> ' ' >> +_w >> '!'; since you don't need to refer to previous matches? Naming Proposed Libraries

When discussing libraries in public that are under development but not yet accepted into Boost, I think it's problematic to refer to "The Boost <whatever> library" or "Boost.<whatever>" without qualification. Our peer-review process is respected, and these libraries are not yet officially blessed by Boost. I don't want to dilute the value of Boost acceptance. Can we please make a habit of prepending "The proposed" or something similar? For example, I suggest "The proposed Boost Interfaces library." Thanks! P.S. Given: typedef std::deque<char> DequeString; std::string s("Hello sweet world!"); std::string word("sweet"); DequeString dequeString; // Copy "Hello sweet world!" into the deque string std::copy(s.begin(),s.end(),std::back_inserter(dequeString)); // Now, I want to find where "sweet" appears in the dequeString. [type_traits] is_convertible regression on GCC 3.2 and 3.3

Hi, The following code causes a static assertion failure on GCC 3.2 (MinGW): #include <boost/static_assert.hpp> #include <boost/type_traits/is_convertible.hpp> struct base { }; struct middle : virtual base { }; struct derived : middle { }; BOOST_STATIC_ASSERT((boost::is_convertible<derived, middle>::value)); This problem is apparently responsible for the current failure of all the iostreams tests on the platforms gcc-3.2.3 and gcc-3.3.5. Reactor makes your service "reactive" by serially demultiplexing events synchronously (Proactor has mutliple threads ready to do work). To start handling events you call "handle_events". You don't really care if the call puts your thread in an alertable wait or not. That would depend on whether the reactor uses the Select_Reactor or WFMO_Reactor implementation. These patterns nicely decouple event demuxing and dispatching from all the other processing. Hugo Duncan's Giallo project uses them also. Groete Hans

[test] linking problems with boost-1.32.0-5.fc3.i386.rpm

Hi, I upgraded today to boost-1.32.0-5.fc3.i386.rpm and my projects stoped linking complaining about libboost_unit_test_framework.so: undefined reference to `init_unit_test_suite(int, char**)'. I'm not a linker expert but it seems like libboost_unit_test_framework library does not have a weak symbol init_unit_test_suite anymore. I had to rollback to boost-1.32.0-3.i386.rpm. I'd like to know is that my problem or ...? Success has been limited. I'm currently representing compile-time floating-point numbers in terms of fractions and mixed numbers. More numbers can be represented in exact form this way. For applications requiring moderate precision, my implementations of boost::mpl::fraction and boost::mpl::rational should suffice (though I'll have to study the recent discussions on rational operations to see if there's room for improvement). For applications requiring extreme precision (e.g. calculating PI at compile time), I've attempted to offer boost::mpl::big_integral, boost::mpl::big_fraction, and boost::mpl::big_rational as arbitrary-precision variants. It is here where I run into trouble; using MinGW 3.4.2 on an "average user"'s computer, I can barely compile a single divide operation on big_integrals, and it usually takes a half-hour to do so. I need to somehow make big_integral more efficient before tackling big_fraction and big_rational. If you weren't able to obtain my work so far, it's still at <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/boost/files/mpl_math.zip>.
