The boost::wave library is accepted into boost. A couple of review comments are summarized below from Paul Mensonides and Joel de Guzman. Paul Mensonides stated: "I think that the design and implementation are good. The library has reasonable performance in preprocessing complex examples and is more conformant to the standards than most other vendors' preprocessors. Nearly every tool that analyzes C++ source effectively needs to have the ability to preprocess that source. Having a plugable preprocessor is a boon for tool developers--including possible future Boost tools. That said, the potential usefulness of the library (as a library) is fairly restricted to tool development. OTOH, the driver can be used as a replacement for faulty preprocessors without a great deal of effort. Furthermore, the tracing ability of the library (and, by extension, the driver) makes it hands-down the best tool for debugging complex preprocessor metaprograms. This is especially true because tracing can be turned on and off mid-expansion with pragmas (in particular, with the _Pragma operator borrowed from C99). My use of the wave-driver has spanned a couple years now, and during that time Hartmut has fixed nearly all problems that I've encountered. Beyond the utility and capabilities of the library, the existence of the library makes a worthwhile political statement to compiler vendors. I endorse the concept of a Boost preprocessor, and I endorse this particular realization of that concept. Furthermore, I endorse the author (Hartmut). He has been a very responsible and responsive implementor/maintainer--for Spirit as well as the Wave project." Joel de Guzman stated: "I think this (wave) is the most flexible pre-processor I know. It's a c++ library, so I expected full extensibility. Hartmut was very thorough in his design with more than enough links and hooks through policies and callbacks to do almost anything imaginable. The structure is highly modular. The implementation is very good. Hartmut has been a very avid Spirit developer and I've known him to be an excelent coder. I took a peek at the code, sure enough, he's a Spirit expert who can churn out really cool Spirit parsers." Review Managers Conclusion: As the wave library has been in active development for three years, has the endorsement of key boost members, and has demonstrated great utility, I think that boost::wave should be added to boost without delay. proposed extension for boost::any

Hi all, While using boost::any with pointers, I realized the following problem for polymorphic classes: \code class A { public: virtual ~A() {} } ; class B: public A {} ; int main() { boost::any b(new B) ; try { A* a = boost::any_cast<A*>(b) ; } catch (const boost::bad_any_cast&) {/*failed*/} } \endcode Of course the following code failes, since rtti information is used for casting. I extended the boost::any concept, and incorporated a boost::any_dynamic_cast (see attachment) This extension uses boost::is_polymorphic and boost::remove_pointer, and allows dynamic casting if possible. Does anyone need this features, and can it be incorporated (after some regression tests) into the boost::any library? Thanks for any comment about it. --Frantz Maerten

STL containers with contracts, any interest?

I am writing a set of contract verification classes for the various STL containers. These are wrapper classes which verify DbC style contracts (i.e. preconditions, postconditions and invariants). I have already written one for std::vector you can see it at: http://www.ootl.org/pwc/ Is anyone interested in seeing this submitted Boost, if I extend it to cover the basic collections? e.g. list, map, set, multimap, multiset, deque, queue, stack? Boost.Test as DLL

Hi, I am trying to finally implement DLL version of Boost.Test components. Here is several issues/questions I have: 1. main() function AFAIK there is no way to put a main function in DLL on windows. What should we do instead? I reworked the framework specifically for the purpose of making this kind of separation easier. But I still would like to hear what people think in this regard. 2. main() function again On unix(s) there is a possibility to put main info dlls (If I am wrong please correct me). Should we use different semantic for Windows and Unix(s) or use the one I implement for windows? 3. init_unit_test_suite I need to call external function from inside of DLLs. How it should be declared? Cause I am getting unresolved symbols error 4. runtime-link In my Jamfile in default build section of build rule there is <runtime-link>static/dynamic. Should I keep this? Should I use static for lib rule and dynamic for dll rule? Nothing for lib dynamic for dll? Thanks, Gennadiy

none_t in the boost namespace

Hi people, In the users mailing list, Yuval Ronen pointed out that optional<> uses a type "detail::none_t", documented as such, thus prompting people to use a type in a namesapece which is supposed to be hidden to end users. A straightforward fix is to just move "none_t" out of the detail namespace directlty into boost. However, this little change introduces a new type in the (main) boost namespace, so before I do that I want to make sure it won't have any undesired impact. If you see any reason for not doing this (putting "none_t" right there in boost) please speak now. If no one objects, I'll do it. Best, Fernando Cacciola

exceptional handling at boost/serialization ( reading bad archive )

Hi, I have a class using boost_1.32/serialization to save/restore object data and it's working fine for load & save its own archive. I tried to make it load an archive saved by an unrelated class in order to verify exception handling of reading wrong/ corrupt archive. It dumps core at basic_iarchive_impl::load_pointer.
