[program_options] printing the variable map

I'm writing a program with program_options (very cool and useful library, BTW) and I found myself wanting to print out the variable_map values for debugging purposes. Is there an easy way to do this? Also couple of documentation nits: 1) From the first example.... if (vm.count("help")) { std::cout << desc << "\n"; I had to read the code to figure out that variable_map inherits from std::map, and this is why you can call this. Documentation only says: class variables_map : : public boost::program_options::abstract_variables_map 2) In the 'Storage Component' section -- there's this: Let's consider an example: variables_map vm; store(parse_command_line(argc, argv, desc), vm); store(parse_config_file("example.cfg", desc), vm); finish(vm); .... Finally the call to notify function runs user-specified notify functions and stores values into regular variables, if needed. I assume 'finish' is supposed to be notify? I don't see any docs for finish. Jeff

build-monitor yet again

I'll take one now that should resemble a lot the one from before. I trust this evidence will put to rest whether build_monitor actually arbitrarily stops probrams with NO regard as to who or what started them. Victor A. shared_ptr doc issue

In the constructor documentation, it seems that "Notes" is used to document what really are preconditions, e.g.: "p must be a pointer to an object that was allocated via a C++ new expression or be 0" Normally, "notes" are considered to be non-normative in the standard. VS6 refuses to open the .dsw & .dsp from CVS. Char. diff to v 31.0 shows that the files are equivalent - have they been set to binary or something? thanks, max. const_pointer_cast for shared_ptr

I would like to propose adding const_pointer_cast<> to shared_ptr, in exactly the same way that there is dynamic_pointer_cast<> and static_pointer_cast<>. I am surprised that it is missing. Is there a reason for that? If not, I will submit a patch that implements this. Thanks. -- Colin

Hi Dave, hi all, I read with interest you plans for reviving MTL. It is certainly a shame that development of MTL was been stagnant for so long. It certainly had many interesting design features and I used it for all my work for many years. That said I switched to using and developing uBLAS long ago and it has an excellent design. Of course the B stands for Basic and uBLAS's primary aim is to provide the standard set of BLAS functions in a modern C++ environment. Of course as it stands the complete uBLAS library is more then just the BLAS functions and includes some common Linear Algebra algorithms and many useful types. That said I think it is important to separate BLAS functions from domain specific linear algebra algorithm development. Neither design seems to be perfect with regard to efficiency. Since uBLAS is already in Boost and has a well established and clean user syntax it would seem strange to ignore it. For the perspective of building further Linear Algebra algorithms it would not be too hard to use the syntax sufficiently portably so that a future MTL with expression templates could not be used interchangeably.
