A build of 1.47.0 using VC++10.0 is producing warnings from only a few libraries. It would be great if these were cleared so that this popular compiler builds Boost without warnings at the default settings. Two things to note: This error described in the bug ticket I filed previously for 1.46.1 is still there: https://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/5305 This bug is about the fact that b2/bjam tries to call iclvars.bat in the wrong directory for the XE 2011 versions. Intel moved the file when releasing XE 2011. This error described in the following bug ticket for boost.property_tree is still there: https://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/5307 A workaround for VS 2010 was required due to a bug in the std::pair. Since the Intel Compiler uses the same C++ Runtime library, it needs this workaround too. Thanks, Edward

[serialization] VC++ compiler warnings

A 1.47.0 VC++ 10.0 build of Boost produced a lot of stupid warnings from Serialization in the form c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\INCLUDE\xutility(2227) : warning C4996: 'std::_Copy_impl': Function call with parameters that may be unsafe - this call relies on the caller to check that the passed values are correct. To disable this warning, use -D_SCL_SECURE_NO_WARNINGS. See documentation on how to use Visual C++ 'Checked Iterators' These can be shut off various ways, such as sticking "#include <boost/config/warning_disable.hpp>" at the start of the file being compiled. If we could get rid of these serialization warnings, that leaves only a handful of VC++ warnings from other libraries. And those look trivial to fix, so I'll pester those folks too. It would be great if Boost default build produced no warnings for this popular compiler. Thanks, --Beman

Hi, boost::interprocess::detail::*truncate_file* accepts *size_t* instead of * offset_t*. On x32 platform it causes data loss in the: - file_wrapper::truncate - shared_memory_object::truncate Regards. I found a way to avoid having to explicitly provide the type of the variable value that I was trying to extract from the variable_map. In environments that support the C++0x standard, you can use the std::map.at() function to get generic access to the variable's value(Trying to use operator[]() usually results in a compiler error.): // Given the function Foo as: void Foo(unsigned short val); // The following are equivalent Foo(vm["my_ushort"].as<unsigned short>()); Foo(vm.at("my_ushort")); Granted, this won't work in cases where the destination type is ambiguous or undiscoverable (ie: if Foo was overloaded to accept floats as well), but for many cases the convenience is nice. In those cases where your destination type does not match the variable type, you will get a bad_any_cast exception, just as you would with "as()". Does anyone think would be a worthwhile addition to program_options? Hello All, I've released new version of Boost.Locale I'm going to integrate to svn-trunk... It includes the fixed that where brought on the review: 1. Updated date_time iterface to be more consistent with Boost.DateTime and Boost.Chrono. 2. Redesigned Boundary interface, to be more Boost.Regex like: segment_index that iterate over segment objects and boundary_point_index that iterate over boundary_point objects and use iterator_facade. 3. Redesigned messages interface so it allows to use wide strings and non-US-ASCII strings as keys. 4. Added an index to documentation allowing to easy browsing the documentation. 5. Overall improved documentation: - More terms and clarified - Added documentation on getting gettext for windows. - More samples and outputs provided and more. 6. General code cleanup of issues that had were brought up in the review.
