Hi Jeremy, You implementation is great. I have one problem though, and that is that the size of the buckets is of way larger that it has to be. I find that in many applications I know the size of the map Iøm going to construct. Furthermore, I also find that N elements of type T* or unsigned int can be put in a hash map/set with N (or very close to N) buckets without gettng a max load factor above 1 (so the distribution of elements is perfect). This is probably because my T* objects points to consecutive memory locations or because my integers fall in a narrow range like [0,N]. Nevertheless, in such situations the container will allocate a huge number of buckets --- far more than needed wasting too much memory. I tried expanding your list of primes so that it contains more numbers in the small range and in particulat such that it contains numbers closely above powers of 2. It happens frequently that powers of 2 comes up. Another alternative would be to allow users to control the initial bucket coutn explcitly in the constructor. I think I might like this better. Something like boost::unordered_set<T*> the_set( boost::unordered::bucket_count(32u) ); assert( the_set.bucket_count() == 32u ); Comments? -Thorsten

Extended RTTI with boost - and idea

Hello all, There are many cases in the "real world" when developers need something like 'moc' utility from the Qt distribution. For example, such utility could add some extended RTTI into classes and structures, add auto-generated serialization/initialization/ assignment/comparation code, defines something like properties, and so one. I think it could be good idea to add something like 'moc' into boost distribution and to make it standard development tool. How could it works. Assume we have a code like this: class SomeClass { MIG_INFO; public: //... public MIG_MEMBERS: int Member1; double Member2; void SomeMethod1(); int SomeMethod2(int, double); protected MIG_MEMBERS: //... private MIG_MEMBERS: //... }; Here is 'MIG' (for example) is abbreviation of 'MetaInfo Generator'. Greetings, I would like to announce, that a very early version of 'mirror' library is available in the boost sandbox at http://svn.boost.org/svn/boost/sandbox/mirror/ . Mirror is a compile-time reflection library intended to be proposed as a boost library (in case of interest) at some point in the future. The current version of mirror allows to register and then reflect namespaces, types, typedefined types, classes, base classes, and class member attributes. It allows to inspect: - the name of a namespace and it's scope. - the base name of a type and it's scope (currently, types defined on the global scope, in a namespace and inside of a class are supported) - the list of base classes of a class, including the type of inheritance (virtual/non-virtual) and access type (private/protected/public) - the list of types of the member attributes (own or all, including inherited) - the names of the member attributes It allows to get and set the value of a member attribute. It supports attributes with getter/setter functions. It tries to be as less intrusive as possible, in some cases the reflected class does not need to be changed at all, even if it has non-public member attributes, in other cases a one line PP macro has to be inserted into the definition of the class. There are several examples, (some of them still incomplete and rather poorly commented), showing, how the library can be used. /libs/examples/registering/namespaces.cpp - shows how namespaces can be registered and which properties can be inspected. /libs/examples/registering/types.cpp - shows how to register types and typedefined types and how to get the meta-data describing them. /libs/examples/registering/classes.cpp - this is a fairly complicated example about registering and reflecting classes, base classes and various types of class member attributes. /libs/examples/registering/virtual_bases.cpp - shows how to register virtual base classes and how to access all member attributes, including the inherited ones. The examples were succesfully compiled with MS Visual C++ 2008EE, on Vista g++ 4.1.3, on Ubuntu There are unfortunatelly no jamfiles (yet). The (sore excuse for ;) ) documentation is still rather sketchy and currently contains only a basic overview and the goals of the library. As said, the library is still in early stages of development and many things may (and will) be changed yet. Hello all, I've been looking through some of the documentation patches on Trac, and have gathered them together on a branch, along with a few small changes I've noticed recently. Egg review period extended until April 20th

Hi All The Egg review has run for 2 weeks now with zero reviews, which is obviously disappointing. There has been some good and pretty thorough discussion, and a couple of promises of reviews. As such, I'm extending the review period by 1 week until 20th April 2008. Please do post a review if you have any interest in this library. In case anybody is unsure, in the case of zero votes being posted, the default result will be a rejection. Please lets make sure we don't have to fall through to this default case. Introduction: It is not so easy to define Function Objects especially if you want to support Boost.ResultOf and Boost.Lambda. Therefore, as Boost provides iterator_facade and iterator adaptors, Egg provides function_facade and function adaptors. I've been looking through the docs and I was wondering if boost has any lock-free threadsafe containers. I know it's been brought up on the list before, but I was curious if anybody had a working implementation. If somebody is working on them, I'd like to lend a hand if possible.

Pending changes to boost::throw_exception

I am ready to commit changes to throw_exception.hpp to automatically inject support for boost::current_exception and for transporting of arbitrary data in exception objects, for all exceptions emitted by Boost. The relevant Boost Exception tests pass with all compilers currently included in http://www.boost.org/development/tests/trunk/developer/exception.html, with the exception of this one: http://tinyurl.com/49eh7d, which I'm not sure how to troubleshoot (also, notably, Borland tests are missing for some reason.) While the change is trivial, throw_exception() is a critical Boost component and this might cause temporary regressions throughout all Boost libraries, so I will wait a few more days to discuss any objections.
