'bjam install' documentation on "Getting Started on Windows" page

Is it necessary to run the 'bjam install' after building boost from source? I always do this but have never been sure if it is needed. The reason that I am asking is that the 'Boost Getting Started with Windows' page does not say anything about it and probably should if it is necessary.

Joe Gottman quite correctly points out in http://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/1762 that shared_ptr should honor user definitions of BOOST_DISABLE_THREADS and disable MT support. Unfortunately, despite documenting quite clearly that BOOST_DISABLE_THREADS is a user macro, Boost.Config defines it in some situations. This means that I can't rely on this macro to reflect the user's intent, as I don't know whether it's been set explicitly by the user, or implicitly (and incorrectly IMO) by Boost.Config.

ARM platform: undefined reference to __sync_fetch_and_add_4

I cannot link against Boost libraries 1.35.0 built with CodeSourcery's ARM/GNU toolchain, although the build is successful. I built Boost with: bjam --with-regex --with-serialization --with-thread stage And tried to link to the test program from the 'Getting Started (Unix)' guide I get: $ arm-none-linux-gnueabi-g++ test-regex.cpp -I. stage/lib/libboost_regex-gcc42-mt-1_35.so /tmp/ccVow1Eq.o: In function `boost::detail::atomic_decrement(int*)': test-regex.cpp:(.text._ZN5boost6detail16atomic_decrementEPi[boost::detail::atomic_decrement(int*)]+0x18): undefined reference to `__sync_fetch_and_add_4' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status With assistance on the boost-build list I've ascertained that the problem is that GCC doesn't support __sync_fetch_and_add and the other atomic built-ins on ARM. An additional case for this may need to be added to boost/detail/sp_counted_base.hpp I don't know enough to patch boost for this, short-term or otherwise; can anyone offer any advice? TIA, --rob

Is the review schedule correct on the new website?

Hi I'm the review manager for the Egg library that starts on 31 March. I used to see Egg in the review schedule, but I checked today and we'd disappeared. I've assumed that is some versioning issue with the website, and kicked off the review anyway, I hope thats ok with the review wizard(s). The online schedule doesn't contain any reviews scheduled after Feb of this year, so it just looks like an out of date copy to me. [statechart] Mangled TOC?

I'm not sure if this is a bug in the quickbook docs or deliberate, but the Table of contents here: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_35_0/libs/statechart/doc/index.html looks kind of mangled around the PDF links. Was this intended to look this way, or just a slip? Cheers, John.

[Logging] Defining a to_string destination

Hi, I would like to log to a standard container like std::list<std::string> or something similar, so i can send my logs to another program over network. But i have problems defining my own destination. For now it would be ok, to log just to a string. But i don't understand how to define my own destination in the right way. I looked at http://torjo.com/log2/doc/html/namespaceboost_1_1logging_1_1manipulator.htm… but i don't understand the "sharing data" part well. Maybe someone can help me out here? The changeset 43884 added some code using is_void, but it seems is_void.hpp is not included somewhere by Boost.Function. I think boost/function/detail/prologue.hpp should include it, right?
