[Probability] manuscript and release of v0.4

I have now released version 0.4 of the Probability library. As usual, it is available either from the Boost Vault (boost.probability-0.4.tar.gz) or from http://biology.nmsu.edu/software/probability/ The main difference from earlier versions is that a power function, pow(), is now available for both probability and likelihood types. In addition, several of the operators involving mixed domains or value types are handled correctly now, and the testing is even more thorough than before. More importantly, though, I have written a manuscript describing the motivation and conceptual framework for the library in greater detail than is given at the site above. I would welcome anyone who wishes to review the manuscript to do so. Please let me know and I will forward a copy. Finally, I would appreciate any comments on the existing code, compiler incompatibilities, etc. I think that this can be a valuable addition to Boost, and would like the feedback necessary to move it toward that goal. An attempt to generalize the Pimpl idom with properly separated interface and implementation

Given I've been using this Pimpl idiom quite extensively lately I've noticed writing the same scaffolding over and over again. Being the lazy bugger as I am I looked around if there was anything available. Turns out there were proposals floated around (like Asger Mangaard's dated around May 2006). However, I did not see anything that would preserve idiom's original purpose/value - the separation of interface and implementation. So, I jogged something with that in mind. That seemed to do the job for me as something tedious like class Test { public: Test (int); Test (int, int); int get() const; bool operator==(Test const& p) const { return impl_ == p.impl_; } bool operator!=(Test const& p) const { return impl_ != p.impl_; } operator bool() const { return implementation_; } void swap(pimpl& that) { impl_.swap(that.impl_); } private: struct Internal; boost::shared_ptr<Internal> impl_; }; shrunk down do pure interface struct Test : public boost::pimpl<Test> { Test (int); Test (int, int); int get() const; }; with implementation details safely tacked away in an implementation file. However, it looked suspiciously easy. So, I am throwing it out for all the respected community to see (uploaded as vb_pimpl_0.1.zip) and to set me straight. Is there any value in that basic idea? [intrusive] Missing include in rbtree.hpp

Hello, the mentioned file uses std::swap and and other algorithms from the std algorithms library without including the header file algorithm. Also the documentation for 'void swap(rbtree_impl& other)' states: 'If the comparison functor's none swap call throws.' I guess the word 'none' should be removed from the sentence. Regards, Markus

GIL Graphics Examples

If you need a sample on something in particular, let me know and I'll try to add it. I've got many more that explore polygon filling but I'm having trouble with drawing speed. If you've got experience with Bezier curves, let me know.

Phil, thank you for your encouragement and Peter, thank you for the pointers. Much and truly appreciated. I'll definitely have a look at both Alan's and Peter's implementations if I can make use of those. It's Saturday -- my family-duties day -- and I am just running out the door. After a rrrreally quick look the grip_ptr seems to provide a deep-copy semantics without exposing private implementation. It that is the case, then Alan and Peter (who implemented a similar thing) are definitely smarter than I am as I was not able to figure out how to achieve that (without exposing implementation details). Then I'll steal :-) their idea (with proper acknowledments :-)). That will have to be done in addition to my currently proposed shared_ptr-based implementation as, for example, my current usage pattern is such that I use one data repository/implementation and share/pass many smart-pointer type instances pointing to that sole implementation. The concept of a submimage_view is very supportive of creating generic functional components, similar in a way to your spirit library. GIL is a superb base upon which to build a graphics library. Working with experts in functional programming like yourself, using GIL as a base, developing a graphics library for simple primitves, such as lines, circles and polygons would be a trivial matter, and its already basically finished. Anti-grain is a half-finished library which works well in areas. However, I'm persuaded that GIL is the library upon which I think will ultmiately prevail. With adobe supporting the GIL library, who support functional programmers with many of their open-source offerings, it seems like a much better bet to go with adobe. I've moved my application to GIL and have not looked back. I encourage you and any other graphics programmers to give it a strong look. If I can persuade you to look harder at GIL, I would love to pick your brain about how to make a graphics library that works as well as your spirit library.

Strings with character sets

Dear All, After a rather longer delay than I had planned, I have some proof-of-concept code for strings tagged with character sets.
