[multi-index?] Advice about publicizing capacity for sets/vectors

I was thinking of using a multi-indexed container as part of an implementation of another container. The final container will have an interface like a set, but internally the elements sometimes have to be accessible via random-access iteration[1]. Implementing with a straight set would limit me to bidirectional iteration, which will slow down internal operations that need random access. The internal multi-index container would have set and vector aspects, i.e. ordered-unique and random-access index specifiers. Even though the external interface will be like a set, should I have publicize the vector-like operations "capacity" and "reserve"? Will reserving capacity help in the ordered-unique part of any insertions? Alternatively, is there a better way to implement a set w/ random-access iteration besides this multi-index idea? [1] I think that the external iterators should stay bidirectional. That way I can transfer the ordered-unique view's iterators and give a consistent traversal order. No one has stepped up to volunteer to be the review manager. I suggest that you generate a little buzz around the library, post a couple of threads and "sell" your library to the boost developers. C++ "exceptions" are a controversial topic with many different points of view. Tell us why we need boost::exception and why does your library solve that need?

[Proto] Copying expressions

Hi I'm creating lambda expressions using proto, using the extension mechanism to add my own operator() so that I can do: (_0 += _1)(x,y) The operator() does all the transforming of the expression tree, and evaluates the result. The above works ok, its pretty similar to your calculator examples. If I want to do something like function<int(int&,int&)> f(_0 + _1); // Copy lambda expression into a Boost.Function func Now I've got problems because proto trees are built out of references (to temporaries). So func will blow up later when the temporaries are off the stack (actually the example I've tried starts evaluating junk values). I believe the above code will work today with BLL and Phoenix, as the temporaries are copied rather than handled as references. As I cannot interfere with the Boost.Function constructors, how can I transform my expression tree to change the refs to copies, whilst retaining the syntax above? Is there some way to tell proto to build trees with copies? Or have I missed something clever in proto again :) It might make a good Calc4 example as I imagine this is a common requirement. Committing iostreams bug fixes?

It doesn't appear that there is an active maintainer of the iostreams library at this time. Is there any chance someone else can look over some of the iostreams bugs and commit those with relatively simple and obvious patches available already? I have submitted two such patches, the first of which I'd really love to see get in sometime soon: http://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/1002 http://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/1003 But there are others that seem like no brainers, such as: http://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/786 Thanks for any help!
