Hi, Interprocess still has not been included in the documentation or libraries on the main site yet, wouldn't it be good to include it there as soon as possible as it would increase the usage of interprocess. The "quick guide for the impatient" on maps is very good and a welcome addition to the documentation. The documentation at http://ice.prohosting.com/newfunk/boost/libs/interprocess/doc/html/interpro… reads "Boost.Interprocess's map is The construction of map is a bit tricky, because" which could be an editing or typing mistake as it doesn't make much sense. Problems with boost.thread

I have some problems with boost.thread (version 1_34) under gcc version 3.2.3 20030502 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.3-52). The library ( all the boost distribution) compiles fine and a bjam on the ./libs/thread/test directory also report a successful test execution. Hi all, I want to combine BOOST_FOREACH and BOOST_AUTO in my code. With the current libs can do something like: BOOST_FOREACH( BOOST_TYPEOF( *c.begin() ) v, c ) { ... } I was wondering if this kind of use can be promote to a more user friendly syntax like: BOOST_AUTO_FOREACH( v, c ) { ... } Thanks! Hello, I would like to know the exact procedure I have to follow to request a formal review process of a proposal to update a boost library? The Boost Formal Review Process is documented in http://www.boost.org/more/formal_review_process.htm and suggest to send a mail on this list, if I understood correctly. What I did under the topic "Computing Random Points on Sphere" I would like to know who is the "review manager" in charge? I like the idea of sharing ideas on a public forum, but who decide? [typeof] patch for typeof.hpp

boost/typeof/typeof.hpp has conditionalization for the compilers that do not support typeof extension. For such compilers, defining BOOST_TYPEOF_NATIVE macro results in a "native typeof is not supported" error. The condition does not include aCC and cxx compilers. Since on the platforms not supporting typeof extension "_native" subset of typeof library tests is marked known failure, the test system does not flag this omission: the "_native" tests fail to compile anyway. Attached patch fixes this problem. Tested on Tru64 and HP-UX. Ok to commit to HEAD? Thanks, Boris

[boost@home] revolutionary solution to create a testing farm

Hi, go ahead and call me crazy :) I couldn't sleep last night thinking about the problems that boost has with the testing process. Although the roots of my idea were different it turns out to be very similar to well known SETI@Home project. Therefore I call it Boost@Home :) Solution is simple in following steps: 1. create a vmware image with operating system and a single compiler installed. One vmware image per compiler to ease bugfix and upgrades in the vmware images. 2. let people download as many images (compilers) as they want. They will use it with freely available vmware-server to launch it. 3. After the virtual machine starts (with the compiler) a small program will be automatically executed to await instructions from boost.org. 4. The boost.org website will list the number of available virtual machines and which tests they are currently running. No interaction from the person who runs the virtual machine is required. Once it is launched it obeys instructions from the central boost.org server. Problems: 1. vmware is free to use, but supports only x86 architectures. Fortunately (to my knowledge) every compiler supported by boost has some version working in x86 environment. 2. some compilers require propertiary windows OS. Giving away a clean install of windows is prohibited. We can use ReactOS intead: http://www.reactos.org/ and install the compilers there. 3. It's possible that not every compiler has a version available for free. I'm not sure - is that true? If yes then it's in their interest to help us: - we ask the to provide a free copy of their compiler for the sole purpose of being used by Boost@Home project. - alternatively we drop support for their compiler. I have several machines lying around that could be used to help boost. If deploying a testing farm will become as easy, as downloading a vmware image and starting it - it's obvious that many people will join this.
