In many projects there are compiler errors that lead back to MPL header files located in boost\mpl\aux_\preprocessed\msvc60\, or.hpp and and.hpp. They produce the following errors (example for or.hpp): or.hpp(41) : error C2908: explicit specialization; 'or_impl<0>' has already been instantiated from the primary template or.hpp(41) : error C2039: 'result_' : is not a member of '`global namespace'' or.hpp(41) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '<' or.hpp(41) : error C2059: syntax error : '<' or.hpp(43) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '{' or.hpp(43) : error C2447: missing function header (old-style formal list?) The following patch would add the necessary specialisation for or_impl<true> and and_impl<true> to the struct definition directly, and only for the evc4 compiler (msvc8 with ARM target wouldn't use the alternative code). As I guess from the folders name the files are auto-generated. complex/scalar iterator adapters with ref semantics

If you remember, I posted several times about SSL wasn't working reliably. Well, the single threaded io_service seems to have fixed that problem (I do believe the SSL portion of ASIO has thread issues). However, I could never figure out how to avoid thread locking. The documentation says that asio::buffer() does not make a copy of the data, instead it makes copies of the pointer to the buffer. Because of this, I had to copy my heap data to be sent over the socket into a deque before calling post(). After the handler is called (the socket write has finished), I then remove the first entry in the deque and submit the next entry. This requires thread locking on the deque. I should also point out that because of our design, 2 or more worker threads could be doing work that will require data to be sent out over the same socket at exactly the same time. I had to lock access to the socket since the docs say it isn't thread safe. Is there a better design that I'm missing? Our system isn't a simple design where client makes a request and server responds. Our design is more like a client makes a request, that request changes state in the system, the state change triggers multiple responses to all logged in clients. It's possible other threads are also communicating to the same client with other data, therefore the need to lock socket access. Thanks, Scott

I encountered an error in boost/test/impl/execution_monitor.ipp where it is checked if the platform being used supports SEH and defines BOOST_MS_STRUCTURED_EXCEPTION_HANDLING in that case. evc4 and the Windows CE 4.2 platform supports SEH, but it doesn't provide <eh.h> for setting structured exception translators. For this reason this patch disables the whole feature, at least for Windows CE 4.2. It additionally patches a line where a warning is output with the preprocessor statement "#warning" that isn't supported on evc4. Boost on Windows Mobile

I need to run some of the boost dlls on a PDA (Windows Mobile 5.0). Do I need to compile them with a different switch or with a different version of bjam or anything like that? I've compiled the dlls with with VC8 on Windows XP. Would these versions of the dlls run on Windows Mobile? All: I've begun uploading the Extension library that I've been working on for Boost into the vault (boost-consulting.com/vault directory "Extension"). As of right now, there are only two files, which are just some test cases. I'm uploading them first for comments on the interface. The rest of the library will come slowly, as I document it and put in better comments. Notes: advanced_test.cpp: illustrates loading classes that involve interdependencies. The comments in the file describe how this is done. simple_test.cpp: illustrates loading classes that cannot be modified before being used as extensions - i.e. any class can be made loadable by calling the following: library::make_simple_class_available<any_class>(); //Good point, Janek - this is definitely necessary It is slightly more complicated if non-default constructors are needed. Note the following: -All of these test cases pass. -These test cases all include local classes for simplicity - there are also test cases for classes from dlls, and all of the same functionality works -It can search directories or a single file for loadable classes (it searches .dll, .so or .dylib files automatically on the related platform). It should be possible to search executables (at least on some platforms...), but I haven't tested it yet. -Virtual inheritance does not seem to cause problems- a couple of test cases involving it seem to work just fine -No macros are currently used (all templates) -Only one entry point required in each dll (the function boost_extension_get_class_info). -RTTI is currently required. But, as noted in an earlier discussion, that requirement will hopefully be removed (by use of Boost.Serialization). I believe I've addressed most of the issues raised in the earlier thread, so please let me know your opinions. The extended_type_info will be addressed once the library interface has been deemed useable, and the prototype (using only RTTI) is fully functional (it's functional already, but I'm expecting to need to make changes based on your comments). Also, one particular point of interest to me would be suggestions for test cases. Do you have particular situations that you need the library to handle? Jeremy Pack
