What happened was that boost-jam changed the non english character into another symbol which led to that none of the abolute path's actually existet. boost::function overhead?
by Neal Becker 03 May '06

03 May '06

I'd like to use boost::function to wrap (pointer to) function to pass to template functions that expect function objects. I'm just wondering, though, if using boost::function wrapper will introduce additional overhead into the function call? example: template<typename in_t, typename out_t, typename func_t> inline void apply (in_t const& in, out_t out, func_t const&f) { typename boost::range_const_iterator<in_t>::type i = boost::begin (in); typename boost::range_iterator<out_t>::type o = boost::begin (out); for (; i != boost::end (in); ++i, ++o) *o = f (*i); } template<typename in_t, typename out_t> inline void phaseDouble (in_t const& in, out_t &out) { apply (in, out, lvalue_cast (boost::function<typename boost::range_value<out_t>::type (typename boost::range_value<in_t>::type)> (some function))); } }

[foreach] abstract range
by Shunsuke Sogame 03 May '06

03 May '06

Hi gurus, Under VC7.1/8, struct xxx : std::vector<int> { virtual void foo() = 0; }; void test(xxx& rng) { BOOST_FOREACH (int x, rng) { } } makes error, foreach.hpp(361) : error C2259: 'xxx' : cannot instantiate abstract class GCC3.4.4 compiles. Is this wrong code? -- Shunsuke Sogame

[MPL] bug in quote.hpp?
by Jaakko Järvi 03 May '06

03 May '06

Hi, Starting from line 61: template< typename T, bool has_type_ > struct quote_impl // GCC has a problem with metafunction forwarding when T is a // specialization of a template called 'type'. # if BOOST_WORKAROUND(__GNUC__, BOOST_TESTED_AT(4)) \ && BOOST_WORKAROUND(__GNUC_MINOR__, BOOST_TESTED_AT(0)) \ && BOOST_WORKAROUND(__GNUC_PATCHLEVEL__ BOOST_TESTED_AT(2)) There seems to be a comma missing from the last line, before BOOST_TESTED_AT(2), is that right?

Re: [boost] [review] Fusion review begins

Joel, I think showing the zip_iterator example I've been using would be very instructive, if not entirely representative of the library's full power: http://tinyurl.com/mrgub You could also link to these diffs to show how much simpler zip_iterator gets when we use fusion: http://tinyurl.com/qslyu I'll send you a slide set that you could use for inspiration if you like. -- Dave Abrahams Boost Consulting www.boost-consulting.com

Graph library concept check problem
by Matthias Troyer 03 May '06

03 May '06

Hi, Trying to compile our ALPS project sources (http://alps.comp- phys.org) with the CVS HEAD I encountered a number of problems with the BGL concept checking. In particular on MacOS X, using the Apple g+ + 4.0.1, I encounter problems in depth_first_search.hpp with: template <class Visitor, class Graph> class DFSVisitorConcept { public: void constraints() { function_requires< CopyConstructibleConcept<Visitor> >(); vis.initialize_vertex(u, g); vis.start_vertex(u, g); vis.discover_vertex(u, g); vis.examine_edge(e, g); vis.tree_edge(e, g); vis.back_edge(e, g); vis.forward_or_cross_edge(e, g); vis.finish_vertex(u, g); } private: Visitor vis; Graph g; typename graph_traits<Graph>::vertex_descriptor u; typename graph_traits<Graph>::edge_descriptor e; }; Somehow this tries to instantiate a default constructor for the visitor and the graph. Since some graph types do not have a default constructor and no default constructor should actually be required, I want to ask whether this is a bug in the compiler or in the concept checks? Nevermind, it must have been boost function. I can't recall exactly which, but I understood :) Something like fn_table[idx]=function<T>; // function<T>(void *)

I don't know if the slides are available.

[numeric/conversion] Patch for BCB2006
by Nicola Musatti 02 May '06

Hallo, The following patch appears to be necessary to get BCB2006 to pass the conversion tests. If nobody has any objections (Fernando?) , I'll commit it in a few days.
