Re: [boost] [website] When will the new website be ready?
by David Maisonave 09 Feb '06

"David Abrahams" <dave(a)boost-consulting.com> wrote in message news:<umzh4zoq6.fsf(a)boost-consulting.com>... > For what it's worth, I feel a little uneasy about the links myself. > > That said, I feel uneasy when I scrutinize any link style too closely Has any thought been put into using Doxygen to document both source-code and to create a web based help document? For those who are not familiar with Doxygen, Doxygen is a free program that uses tags in your source code to create a help document. The help document can be HTML, Man-Pages, RTF, XML, and Windows Help. See following link: http://www.stack.nl/~dimitri/doxygen/index.htmlfrom I'm currently documenting smart_ptr, and I'm using the Doxygen tags to do so. Check out the following link: http://axter.com/smart_ptr/ The above link and has been created automatically using the following source code: http://code.axter.com/smart_ptr.h I've only recently started the document, so only a few of the policy classes have documentation, like the following: http://axter.com/smart%5Fptr/structallocator__default__policy.html But this gives you an example of what Doxygen can do. In the above link, you'll see some example usage code. That example code is not inside the header, and instead, it's pulled from a source file using the following tags: <b>Example Usage</b> @include ../examples/example_allocator_policy_usage.cxx The example_allocator_policy_usage.cxx file is a file that is part of my unit test project. This insures that the code at least is compliable. How often have you pull some example code, to find out it doesn't compile, let alone work. I think this would be a good standard to push for boost. I wouldn't mind volunteering to document some of the other boost classes using the above method.

Nested Boost Binds
by Sergey Lukin 08 Feb '06

08 Feb '06

I'm new to boost libraries, sorry if this is an off topic question. I have the following problem: I want to call method from the PDC class indirectly from another class (Component). Method1 from the Component class should be invoked by asynchronous timer. When I do call like this: y.Method1(10, boost::bind (DPC::Print1, &x, 2)); Everything works When I do call like this: t.async_wait(boost::bind(boost::bind(DPC::Print1,&x, 2), &t)); Everything works either But when I try to perform indirect call of Print1 from Method1 which is called by a timer compiler reports a lot of bugs in the boost::bind code (see part of the log) t.async_wait(boost::bind(boost::bind(Component::Method1, &y, 10, boost::bind (DPC::Print1, &x, 2)), &t)); or t.async_wait(boost::bind(Component::Method1, &y, 10, boost::bind (DPC::Print1, &x, 2), &t)); Maybe somebody had the similar problem before or knows how to solve it. Could you please help me with this. Kind regards Sergey TimerTest.cpp #include <boost/asio/detail/bind_handler.hpp> #include <boost/asio.hpp> #include <boost/thread.hpp> #include <boost/thread/mutex.hpp> #include <boost/bind.hpp> #include <boost/date_time/posix_time/posix_time.hpp> using namespace boost::posix_time; using namespace std; class DPC { public: void Print1(int a) { cout << "A = " << a << endl; } }; class Component { public: template <typename Handler> void Method1 (int x ,Handler h) { x++; h(); } }; void main() { DPC x; Component y; //y.Method1(10, boost::bind (DPC::Print1, &x, 2)); boost::asio::demuxer d; // an asyn timer which calls boost::asio::deadline_timer t(d, boost::posix_time::seconds(1)); // t.async_wait(boost::bind(boost::bind(DPC::Print1,&x, 2), &t)); t.async_wait(boost::bind(boost::bind(Component::Method1, &y, 10, boost::bind (DPC::Print1, &x, 2)), &t)); //t.async_wait(boost::bind(Component::Method1, &y, 10, boost::bind (DPC::Print1, &x, 2), &t)); d.run(); } Compilation error log Compiling... [Test] Link succeeds without BOOST_TEST_MAIN defined
by Johan Nilsson 08 Feb '06

08 Feb '06

The following unexpectedly(?) links and run: --- #include <boost/test/auto_unit_test.hpp> boost::unit_test::test_suite* init_unit_test_suite( int, char*[] ) { boost::unit_test::framework::master_test_suite().p_name.value = "whatever"; return 0; } --- Don't I need to define BOOST_TEST_MAIN in this case? Is this as intended? I'm using the latest cvs and UTF as a static library. // Johan

Dependency graph between boost libraries
by Loïc Joly 08 Feb '06

08 Feb '06

Hello, I was wondering wether there was available somewhere a depency graph between boost libraries (eg serialization uses mp, compressed_pair uses type_traits...). Best regards, -- Loïc

[database] - guid class
by Andy Tompkins 08 Feb '06

08 Feb '06

I can not find a guid/uuid class. Is there a guid/uuid class out there? I develop with Windows and found the strut GUID in <guiddef.h>, but I am looking for a class that has the member functions one would expect with a value class (ie comparison, equality, ...). I created a simple guid class and I am wondering if any one else would find it useful. I have read on this list about a proposed database library and I believe that it should have a guid class. Hi, Is the documentation for boost/assert.hpp linked in anywhere? I don't see it mentioned on the utility documentation page. Thanks, ron

Hi Boost moderators, I sent a mail to you at boost-owner(a)lists.boost.org (asking for CVS access) more than 24 hours ago now and haven't got any reply, yet. Is that email address still the right one? Regards, Tobias

[test] Test Execution monitor fate
by Gennadiy Rozental 08 Feb '06

08 Feb '06

Hi, While working on Boost.Test documentation update I've realized that there is no substantial reason anymore to keep this component around. The Unit Test Framework work just as well and does not require any more effort. Here is an example: Using the Test Execution Monitor: ---------------------------------- #include <boost/test/test_exec_monitor.cpp> int test_main( int, char* [] ) { /// your testing is here return 0; } Using the Unit Test Framework: ---------------------------------- #define BOOST_TEST_MAIN #include <boost/test/unit _test.cpp> BOOST_AUTO_TEST_CASE( my_test ) { /// your testing is here } There are monor preferences for either solution (test_main look like main, but require return statement and argument specifications). But from usability standpoint they are similar. I know that many Boost developers are using this component. So I would like to hear community opinion. If nobody speak up I am planning to depricate this component (first from documentation in 1.34, an from source code in 1.36) Regards, Gennadiy

[serialization] minor fixes
by Vladimir Prus 08 Feb '06

08 Feb '06

JFYI, I've checked in the attached trivial patch. It adds one missing #include (I get compile error without it) and fixes a couple of "signed/unsigned comparison" warnings. - Volodya
