[algorithm] About the documentation of boost::algorithm::string.
by Matthew Henderson 17 Jan '06

17 Jan '06

There are two minor problems with the documentation which I have noticed. 1. Undocumented headers. boost/algorithm/string/config.hpp boost/algorithm/string/iter_find.hpp 2. The statement "Each part is copied and added as a new element to the output container." which appears both in the documentation of boost/algorithm/string /split.hpp and in comments of that header file is not an accurate description of what actually happens. Some testing by myself suggests that, in fact, the contents of the original container are overwritten. Matthew Henderson

min/max addition functionality.
by Vladislav Lazarenko 17 Jan '06

17 Jan '06

Is there any library to do thing like this more easily?
int x = -10; int rating = std::max(std::min(x, 5), 0);
As a result, we will have rating in range 0-5. I looked at the minmax library, but looks like there is not such function :-? Maybe I am looking in a wrong way? Thanks in advance, Vladislav Lazarenko.

[filesystem] Paths as Ranges.
by Matthew Henderson 17 Jan '06

17 Jan '06

I am involved with the development of a generic C++ library for SAT. As part of this project I have been trying to create some tools for refactoring C++ source code and have been using the boost::filesystem library. It seems to us that boost::filesystem::path should be a model of a standard container and/or of boost forward range. This is a natural requirement, and should be easy to fulfil. As things stand we have to provide the following fix ourselves: namespace boost { template <> struct range_const_iterator<boost::filesystem::path> { typedef boost::filesystem::path::iterator type; }; template <> struct range_const_iterator<boost::filesystem::path> { typedef boost::filesystem::path::iterator type; }; template <> struct range_size<boost::filesystem::path> { typedef boost::filesystem::path::iterator::difference_type type; }; namespace filesystem { inline boost::range_size<boost::filesystem::path>::type boost_range _size(const boost::filesystem::path& p) { return std::distance(p.begin(),p.end()); } } It seems that boost::filesystem::path should offer some complete functionality in order to become a model either of a standard container or of a boost range. Incidentally, are there any tools for refactoring C++ code within the boost library or any plans in the future to include such tools? Matthew Henderson

[Boost-bugs] [ boost-Support Requests-1407844 ] Don't know how to get multiIndex container index shared ptrs

Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Don't know how to get multiIndex container index shared ptrs Initial Comment: Hello! My email address is sean(a)mssengineering.com. I would like to use const_mem_fun of multiIndex to index sharedPtrs. Maybe there is an easy way to do this, but there doesn't seem to be any way obvious to me that is really easy. It would be nice if this was a feature of the multiindex container. Any suggestions and/or work arounds that would make this possible would be great. Outdated workaround?
by AlisdairM 16 Jan '06

16 Jan '06

The following lines are found at the end of boost/iterator/detail/config_def.h : #if BOOST_WORKAROUND(__GNUC__, == 2 && __GNUC_MINOR__ == 95) \ || BOOST_WORKAROUND(__MWERKS__, <= 0x2407) \ || BOOST_WORKAROUND(__BORLANDC__, BOOST_TESTED_AT(0x551)) # define BOOST_ITERATOR_NO_MPL_AUX_HAS_XXX // "MPL's has_xxx facility doesn't work" #endif However, I can't find any code using this define - BOOST_ITERATOR_NO_MPL_AUX_HAS_XXX Would it make sense to remove the workaround? -- AlisdairM

Nightly documentation build?
by Marshall Clow 16 Jan '06

16 Jan '06

On the page <http://www.boost.org/more/getting_started.html>, there is a reference to the "Nightly Generated Documentation" page, located at <http://www.boost.org/regression-logs/cs-win32_metacomm/doc/html/libraries.h…> Last week (before I left on a trip), I made a change to the boost::threads docs, but it hasn't shown up :-( Now, there are two possibilities here: 1) I foobared the change. 2) The docs are not getting rebuilt. Anyone know if the docs are, in fact, getting rebuilt nightly? Also, how do I build the docs locally? Thanks in advance! -- -- Marshall Marshall Clow Idio Software <mailto:marshall@idio.com> It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. Databases - SOCI 2.0
by Maciej Sobczak 16 Jan '06

16 Jan '06

Hi, I would like to resurrect the discussion about database support in Boost by posting here the following announcement: <announcement> I'm pleased to announce that the new release of the SOCI library is available for download. The homepage of the project is: http://soci.sourceforge.net/ The SOCI library is a database-access library that tries to mimic the syntax known from Embedded SQL, but staying within the standard C++. The target audience of the SOCI library are those developers, who need an efficient, but also straightforward and easy to use interface. This new release brings the following enhancements: 1. More extensive support for object-relational mapping. 2. A plug-in architecture for backends, which allows to target various database engines by simply linking with the chosen backend. Currently, the following database engines are supported (through their respective "native" interface): * Oracle * PostgreSQL </announcement> We have prepared a small rationale FAQ that can be of interest to you: <http://soci.sourceforge.net/doc/rationale.html>. We would like to put this library under consideration for inclusion into Boost, but before we will bother you with formal submission or anything like this, it should be acknowledged that SOCI, at the moment, does not support Microsoft servers. We would like to therefore invite those of you who have some expertise with ODBC or ADO to help us writing relevant backend. Contributions targetting other database engines are also welcome, of course. Regards, -- Maciej Sobczak : http://www.msobczak.com/ Programming : http://www.msobczak.com/prog/
