variant visitation assertion Failure
by Felipe Magno de Almeida 12 Jan '06

12 Jan '06

Hi! I'm having an assertion failure at visition_impl.hpp:201 But the assertion doesnt state what could be wrong, there's only a comment saying: // should never be here at runtime: Here is the function that is being called, that shouldnt... template < typename W, typename S , typename Visitor, typename VPCV , typename NBF > inline BOOST_VARIANT_AUX_GENERIC_RESULT_TYPE(typename Visitor::result_type) visitation_impl( int, int, Visitor&, VPCV , mpl::true_ // is_apply_visitor_unrolled , NBF, W* = 0, S* = 0 ) { // should never be here at runtime: BOOST_ASSERT(false); typedef typename Visitor::result_type result_type; return ::boost::detail::variant::forced_return< result_type >(); } Could anyone help me? Thanks in advance, -- Felipe Magno de Almeida

If possible, I'd lean toward the ability to both take advantage of the platform where it makes sense and rely on portable abstractions everywhere else. What if I need to demultiplex file I/O events as well as socket events in a TCP-based echo client? Without the socket handle, I don't know how to use asio sockets for that.

[rational]boost::detail::resetter warning on MSVC7.1
by Toon Knapen 11 Jan '06

While using the boost::rational MSVC7.1 generates errors saying: warning C4512: 'boost::detail::resetter' : assignment operator could not be generated So I propose following diff to boost::detail::resetter that makes this warning go away RCS file: /cvsroot/boost/boost/boost/rational.hpp,v retrieving revision 1.16 diff -u -r1.16 rational.hpp --- rational.hpp 27 Dec 2005 11:38:27 -0000 1.16 +++ rational.hpp 9 Jan 2006 16:32:12 -0000 @@ -462,11 +462,16 @@ // A utility class to reset the format flags for an istream at end // of scope, even in case of exceptions - struct resetter { + class resetter { + public: resetter(std::istream& is) : is_(is), f_(is.flags()) {} ~resetter() { is_.flags(f_); } std::istream& is_; std::istream::fmtflags f_; // old GNU c++ lib has no ios_base + private: + // MSVC 7.1 complains that he is unable to generate the assignment- + // operator so we generate it for him as to avoid the warning. + resetter& operator=(const resetter&) ; }; }

I apologize if this ground has already been covered. I'm obviously late to the dicussion. > -----Original Message----- > From: boost-bounces(a)lists.boost.org > [mailto:boost-bounces@lists.boost.org] On Behalf Of Chris Cleeland [snip] > really using. I don't see how one can get hold of the raw > socket descriptor to twiddle options that the library > hasn't abstracted. Would a viable approach in this case be to provide platform-specific or "hidden" socket options as "optional" public interface according to whether those options are available on a given platform? On a related note, should a general-purpose socket library really couple socket classes to an event demultiplexer? Although Asio is more than a socket library, my first inclination would have been to build the socket abstractions independently of auxiliary concepts in such a way as to allow users to combine their usage in the manner most appropriate for their applications. And it does seem like that approach would lead to a socket handle accessor on the public interface of socket classes. -Greg

[serialization] Problem switching from one archive format to the other
by Loïc Joly 11 Jan '06

11 Jan '06

Hello, I'm using boost::serialisation, currently with xml_archive. To make a performance test, I tried to switch to another archive format, namely text_archive. However, I cannot read the archive file any longer. Here are the beginnings of both files : ******XML : <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?> <!DOCTYPE boost_serialization> <boost_serialization signature="serialization::archive" version="3"> <GlobalContext class_id="0" tracking_level="0" version="0"> <Pointer class_id="2" class_name="CContainer2[basic]" tracking_level="1" version="0" object_id="_0"> ******Text: 22 serialization::archive 3 0 0 2 18 CContainer2[basic] 1 0 I tried to debug the problem, and could see that the number 2 was incorrectly interpreted as the version of the class GlobalContext, instead of the Id of the following class. It looks like there is a missing 0 in the text file. Does someone have any idea where it may come from ? FYI, I'm using VC++8.0. Best regards, -- Loïc

please help - trouble building bgl-viz
by VP of Communciations 11 Jan '06

11 Jan '06

I have successfully installed boost with VC express (windows), but am having trouble getting the DOT reader going. I don't seem to have the bgl-viz library. I have followed the directions on the "getting started" page and the read_graphviz page, but I must be doing something wrong, because I am not getting the bgl-viz library. I'm new to boost and C++, so please forgive me if these are elementary questions. How do I build the bgl-viz library? Thanks.
