"Forked takeover" is a very bad way to characterize a community fork. There are many forked open source projects out there that coexist and even motivate each other to improve. If and when a fork manages to supersede the root project, it's because it has done something better and that outcome is for the best. Forking is a part of the beauty of open source and it allows projects to survive and evolve.
