You said "All that you are doing is being hostile to anyone you perceive as an enemy in your head, without any engagement to what is being actually brought up, which in my case was less than nothing." That is not civil. Also, you don't know me, so how could you reach those conclusions?
This thread is about whether or not to fork Asio. People are trying to understand what are the problems with it, and how having a fork will help boost and C++ overall. Nearly every healthy project gets forked (with exception of git), and it is necessary to have some frankness of speech to discuss the gripes and "grievances" (for a lack of better word) that people may have with any given project. This is not an attack to the honour of the original author. It is rather the very function of the whole open source endeavour. No single author is expected to abide by a set of rules, but communities are also allowed to discuss alternative approaches to certain projects.
I whole-heartedly agree with most of that. I *do* feel Chris M was attacking Chris K. for his lack [or method of] attribution. There are ways outside VCS commit authorship. My message was describing how I've seen it play out and how it makes sense (to me). It's not about "enemies" to me. It's about understanding what is actually happening, not a simplistic representation. You never even acknowledge any of that. Instead you posted the above personal attack adding "[I] didn't [engage] to what is being actually brought up". Did you mean to say: "in a way I expected or, understood or wanted"? Let me be clear. It would be okay if nobody understood what I was trying to say. That happens. It's also fine if [you think] my anecdotes were irrelevant to community values. Just say so. It's not okay (or productive, or required) to make people miserable about it. Just don't be a dick. ----- You're right that others have found better words, and especially VinÃcius' experience/testimony helped put things in better perspective. Arnaud seems to have the communicative skill to actually get to the matter. Much respect. I hope we can all learn over time. For me, I'll lay low or drop off the list again for a few years. It seems to work out better that way. To anyone still reading, apologies for wasting our time. Regards, Seth
