lists.boost.org - email is showing up for some registered users instead of name
Hi! Noticed posting on `Boost-users` that emails are showing up for some users, though they have a name in their profiles. Which is undesirable, since those pages are publicly available. E.g. see: https://lists.boost.org/archives/list/boost-users@lists.boost.org/thread/JB6... https://lists.boost.org/archives/list/boost-users@lists.boost.org/thread/LDQ...

Do those people have "Hide address" option enabled in the Mailman settings? Click on the account icon in the top right, Mailman settings, then open Global, Address-based or List-based preferences. I think, this option is enabled by default. At least, it was for me.

Hi Andrej, A similar issue appeared a year ago, although it might be different this time. From before: - When sending email using Gmail it shows From: My Name <myemail@gmail.com> . The "My Name" is then displayed in Hyperkitty. - When sending email from Hyperkitty's web interface directly, the first choice is the user's "display name" setting, with first and last name. Most likely, you did not configure a "display name". In the absence of this variable, it falls back to email address. The solution is to configure a first and last name in the web interface. 1. Did you send those messages via the web interface or gmail? 2. When did you subscribe to boost-users? 3. Is this your first boost-users post? 4. When did you set the screen name? 5. Configure both first and last name to see if that has an effect.

1. Web interface. 2 and 3. Yes, it was the first post and the first boost-users post. Wasn't subscribed to the `boost-users` before, got subscribed automatically after the post. 4. Ahh, I don't remember exactly whether it was before or after the post :\\ But given that in this thread just name appears, without email - maybe the name was set after the post. 5. Tested setting first and last name - it has no effect. Andrey Semashev wrote:

Regardling "Hide address" - IIRC it was set to "Yes" by default,. But either way after the post I've set it to "Yes" for global/address-based/list-based prefs, but it has no effect.
Andrej, From your answers there are many reasons why it might have happened. So the next step is just to post again. However, Last Name is still missing. You should set "everything", including Last Name, just to be sure. And when it's working, remove it.
but it has no effect It's unknown, since you didn't post to boost-users again.
Sure, let's try it. I've set the last name and sent a new message to https://lists.boost.org/archives/list/boost-users@lists.boost.org/thread/JB6... New message appears with the name intead of the email, but the old post is not updated. Any idea if/when names on the old posts are getting updated in general?
Makes sense. Yes, would be great if that thread can be deleted from `boost-users` - so I could start it again with email hidden.
