 I believe this is a bug/limitation of GCC on that platform.  I had thought
 this only effected *inline* functions, but the function in question isn't
 inline so I'm stumped.

 Can you please test with Boost-1.34, and whatever the most recent gcc
 release is for that platform and report back.  I don't have access to AIX,
 so you'll need to reopen the issue and provide a suggested fix.
