 To set the global build dir it would be very convenient to have
 a BOOST_BUILD_DIR environment variable that has the same semantic as the
 --build-dir= command line switch.

 It would be equally nice to be able to specify it in the *-config.jam
 files, but a first glance it looks as if this would come too late
 in the start-up process.
