Comment:

 Yes, this is a problem when using the GCC toolset on darwin. I'm having
 the same issue. The linker doesn't recognize the --start-group option.
 Note that I am not using "Apple GCC;" I'm using gcc-4.4 from macports,
 which is a "plain" GCC implementation.
