Comment:

 Roman, I've updated the changes to be consistent with the current
 codebase. Everything compiles and runs cleanly; all I need is a test that
 fails before we've applied the patch but succeeds afterwards.  It should
 be fairly simple to write if you know what you're trying to achieve.
