 according to
 http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_40_0/libs/format/doc/format.html#printf_directives,

 tabulators are specified by enclosing curly braces, which rather are pipe-
 symbols in the current implementation. (read: %{nt} vs. %|nt|). Small
 hicup, but quite a bit of surprise and confusion, if read by the
 uninitiated (causes formatsyntax exceptions)
