 over the issue in detail, with tests and real data.

 Additionaly, the same functionality is duplicated in Boost.Interprocess
 (managed mapped files, which suffer less from the efficiency issues
 outlined in the above post) so it might be worthwhile to somehow kill the
 duplication with a single 'core'/'base' implementation.
