I specifically don't want to say that - because it isn't true (in
general).
It is true only when N is >= 0 and < length of the input sequence.
What I was trying to say in my earlier comment (about duplication) is that
the semantics for positive and negative values of N are right there on the
page - but not in the description.
I'm not opposed to changing the description; I just want to find something
better.
